2005-05-11 02:56:00 | My system. P4 2.66 Ghz - Windows XP2 - Asus P4S8X_x - SoundMax onboard. Line in, Line out, Mic in, & 1 RCA type SPDIF out. Also a Pinnacle PCTV Pro Card connected to the Mic in. I mainly use headphones which are pluged into the front jack of one of the PC speakers, how ever occasionally I crawl under the desk and connect the HiFi to the comp. What I want is a permanent setup that I can switch between Headphones, PC Speakers, HiFi and possibly Mic input as I'm thinking of trying Skype. I think that some kind of changeover in/out box is the answer. Anyone have any ideas? Ian

2005-05-11 03:11:00 | Head on down to Dick Smith Electronics as they sell switching boxes with RCA connections, either that or if you are technically minding you can build your own. I built a switch box a few years ago to switch inputs on a pro logic stereo system to be able to choose from 1 of 2 alternate sources That was built using a jiffy box and some flat panel rca connectors and a couple of toggle switches.

I'll be having another look. Ian |

2005-05-11 04:34:00 | Godfather, thanks for the link. I checked this out in the store but it only has RCA sockets. Good for the HiFi but I need 3.5mm stereo sockets for the headphones and PC Speakers. C1495 converters $29.87each ouch!!! Must be a cheaper way. Ian

2005-05-11 05:20:00 | would you consider going wireless for the hifi? | plod (107) | |
2005-05-11 10:30:00 | would you consider going wireless for the hifi? Wireless is a bit over the top, the HiFi is only 2 meter away. It appears the problem is more the 3.5 stereo plugs. RCA is fine for the stereo. Unless something else turns up soon I will build a changeover box myself. Thanks everyone for the input. Ian
