354058 2005-05-11 01:45:00 I'm looking for something as simple as mspaint, and that would suffice except it can't edit .png images. Anyone know of a simple program (like paint) that can handle these different file types?

cheers

354059 2005-05-11 02:13:00 Try Irfanview. http://www.irfanview.com

Small and free.

354064 2005-05-11 03:28:00 This is the official ms paint replacement if you have 2000 or XP and supports png. www.eecs.wsu.edu but it needs .net framework 1.1 (about 22Megs) steelsporran (6566)
354065 2005-05-11 12:18:00 I use IrfanView which is very good for a freebie. (Also have Photoshop.)

The Gimp has many happy users.
Find it Here on Download.com (www.download.com)

GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a freely distributed piece of software suitable for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition, and image authoring. It is a powerful piece of software with capabilities not found in any other free software product. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert-quality photo-retouching program, an online batch-processing system, a mass production image renderer, or an image-format converter. GIMP is modular, expandable, and extensible. It is designed to be augmented with plug-ins and extensions to do just about anything. The advanced scripting interface allows everything from the simplest task to the most complex image-manipulation procedures to be easily scripted.

If you are not using Linux, you need to download and install GTK+ Runtime Environment first before proceeding installing GIMP. Took me a long long hard time to get GTK+. Some website offers it at 3.2TB, some 400GB. In the end, I got it from a German website at 3.2MB.

Cheers :)
