2005-05-10 09:43:00 | Is anyone else who is using Xtra having difficulty reaching any sites? Not wanting to appear spammy on my first post here, I won't give any examples, but I know the sites are there. This happened last week, certain sites were giving 'Cannot resolve' errors. After 5 or 6 calls, I finally got an Xtra tech who suggested I use the 'old' nameservers. These worked, which confirmed there was a problem with the auto-assigned nameservers. These were 'fixed' later on in that day, but now I have the problem again (with another site) and other people not on xtra are able to see it fine. Can anyone please tell me the old DNS settings for xtra, or suggest some that might work?

2005-05-10 10:19:00 | Hmm, that might work... Sadly I fall under the '12 months or pay us $100 early leaving fee' deal, so can't really threaten to go elsewhere. My email to them: Hello, I am now unable to reach <url snipped by me> .. while other people I know are able to (non-Xtra customers.) So I can check if it is another issue with Xtras new DNS servers, can you tell me what the old DNS server IPs are, so I can check if they respond? Their response: Thank you for your email regarding issues with <url snipped by me> I have checked the website access from our end and all seems to ok, able to access the website Can only suggest that you check your internet settings are set up correctly, these can be found at Xtra's Help site at xtra.co.nz The Primary DNS is 202.27.158.40 and the Secondary DNS is 202.27.156.72 Kind Regards Robin Help @ Xtra Now, those are NOT the old DNS servers...they are the ones I know are faulty...not what I asked for. My response: I am getting mine auto-assigned, as per the instructions given to me. Are the ones you have given me the ones that are assigned in this way? I think they are named shelob and goliath. If so, why not provide the answer to the question I asked? I don't want shelob and goliath's IPs, I want the IPs that were given to me on the phone by the rep I spoke with, these IPs worked for me when the new ones failed, a fault that was accepted by xtra. As yet, no reply.

2005-05-10 12:29:00 | I tried to ping them as well (the xtra ones - ungoliant.xtra.co.nz and shelob.xtra.co.nz). I get 100% packet loss. I watched all the packets using a packet filter, and they are definitely going out but not replying... I had exactly the same problem with my isp here in Queensland (iPrimus). I called up three times, each time waiting over half an hour and finally talking to an idiot who knew nothing about networking and OS's other than Windows. I posted lots of complaints on a popular Australian forum and the problem disappeared. Hope the same happens to you.

2005-05-10 20:12:00 | I am with Xtra and I have used 202.27.184.3 202.27.184.5 for about 3 years without any problem Likewise, absolutely no problems on those settings apart from the fact that Xtra don't let you ping them for some reason. Cheers Billy 8-{)

You can use any ISP name servers from another connections provided the ISP who's name servers you are talking to allow it. Paradise Actrix Clear Orcon They all do. I can't get to iHug's from a non iHug connection. |
