| 354129 | 2005-05-11 07:20:00 | I have an Acer Travelmate 240 laptop with a problem that's got me beat . The system has XP home, it's a reasonable processor, good amount of RAM etc, everything is just rosy until it's woken from a deep slumber . It has 1 account with full priveleges, 1 account without admin priveleges, (both have passwords) and the guest account is active without a password . The admin account has sensitive information, so having passwords on the system is paramount as a few people may use it in any given day . On waking the system from standby, selecting the admin account and typing the correct password, the system will not accept it, saying I have the wrong password . Restart the PC and the password is accepted fine . Not being one to be foolish and post this to the net without having tried all the things I can first, when presented with this scenario, I logged into the guest account, logged out again and my admin password is accepted . This is repeatable behaviour . I can log into the full account, press the lid switch to send the system into standby, wake it immediately and be locked out of the account, even though I try entering the password many times . As above, log into guest, log out and I have access again . Has enybody ever had this happen to them and found a fix, or had to fix this for somebody else? If so, I'd love to hear about it . Cheers |

Often, after finishing a presentation, she will just close the lid and get down to business. This poses 2 problems; 1. If someone requests another look, she is stymied by the password not being accepted upon re-opening the lid. 2. When she gets back to her office, she can't get in, so either way, she's up the creek without a paddle. Further experimenting has shown the password fault is on any account that has password protection, not just the account with administrator priveleges, but there's another thing to add to the equation, which may or may not help with a key to the solution. Having no PS/2 connectors, if a USB keyboard is plugged in while it goes into standby, when resuming from standby or hibernation, the password is accepted fine, only if it's typed on the external keyboard. Entering the passwords using the laptops keyboard results in a failure, irrespective of whether an external keyboard is present or not. The USB keyboard solution only works if it remains connected through the standby/resume cycle, and is not disconnected and reconnected at any time while the system is in standby or hibernation. For the time being, until we can find a fix, she is using the guest account, as detailed in my first post, which is a workaround, but not really an acceptable fix. Surely somebody out there has to have experienced this type of scenario and can give me some real help? Here's hoping ...... |
