354558 2005-05-12 22:31:00 My USB Flash Drive and also my External USB Harddrive cause the computer to shut down whenever it is first plugged in. It does this the majority of the time but will sometimes be fine. scribe (7496)
354559 2005-05-12 22:42:00 What are some of the details of your pc ie, Whats it running and what are the specifications of your system ? Overdrive_5000 (4950)
354560 2005-05-12 22:58:00 Its a work computer. HP Pavilion 513a. WinXP service pack 1, 640MB of RAM, CELERON 1.8GHz, USB2.0. Device Manager has one issue with the SM Bus Controller (not sure what this is). It also has quite a few entries under the USB section, not sure why? scribe (7496)
354561 2005-05-12 23:03:00 Thats your prob that SM bus controller, it needs the inf files off the mobo cd, if u have one.

I'm pretty sure this is what the SM bus controller deals with (the USB).

If u can install the inf file/s reboot and if it still shows a prob with that SM bus controller, delete it then reboot again.

354563 2005-05-13 00:09:00 Thanks for your input. I will try get the driver for the bus controller somewhere. We don't have the OS CD for some reason. scribe (7496)
