There might be programs that auto disconnect your Internet connection after so -and-so seconds / minutes.

click network connections right click the clearnet icon and click

354319 2005-05-13 23:10:00 won't make any difference unless the person has an external serial modem. even then it only masks the problem not fix it.

90% of the time its due to poor phone lines and you will need to string the modem so the modem connects slower and more stable.

also the auto discconect can do werid things like this.

It helped mine and i have an internal modem

354320 2005-05-13 23:45:00 Do you have Outlook Express open at the time? It can be set to automatically disconnect from the internet after checking for and downloading any new messages. Jen (38)

i doubt it.

after all it only changes the rate of data between the pc and the modem (external). it dosn't change the way the modem connects to the phone line. also internal pci modems generally bypass that setting as it dosn't actually use a normall com port. pci modem use a "work around" to function which is why the modem overclock is not recommended for pci modems.

on rare occasions i have seen it help, however once the problems of the pc where fixed (lack of correct drivers) it became reduntant.
