354711 2005-05-13 08:04:00 Hey, Ive decided to go with one of these 2 cpu's for my next pc.

Is the 3500+ really worth the extra $$?
And also, how does the 3500+ compare to a 3200+? i.e is the performance noticable or is it something I wouldnt miss.

Also, is nforce4 the way to go? or is nforce3 ok?

Cheers, Luke.

354712 2005-05-13 08:12:00 NForce 4 if it fits your budget. Haven't taken any notice of any comparisoms between the chips. Murray P (44)
354713 2005-05-13 08:18:00 Nforce 4 boards are around the same price as Nforce3 boards now,Cant go wrong.

As for the Cpu's, neither will Bottleneck your system so the difference will be hard to see, I wouldn't spend extra on teh CPU if it means skimpy elsewhere on power, features or quality, but if your budget covers it then all the power in the world can't hurt.

What else is going into your system?

The system i built up yesterday used an Nforce 4,3000 930 cpu,a gig of ram and a 6600gt Extreme version,...it trucked along beautifly, It nearly got embarresing when I took the payment but wouldn't let the customer near the comp......

Muhahahahaha.

354714 2005-05-13 08:23:00 Well ive got $1200 + GST to spend on a Box, as I would rather spend the money on a higher speced PC than an LCD monitor.

I would like:

AMD 64 3200+ or 3500+
Gigabyte or Asus Mobo
1 gig ram
Dvd writer (dual layer)
Graphics card
Floppy drive
120gig HDD
Case + PSU

Another point, at this point in time should i go for pci-e or normal agp x8?

354715 2005-05-13 08:27:00 Also, a graphics card isnt too important to me as Im not into gaming. hsv-b0y (5210)
354716 2005-05-13 08:28:00 PCI-E,if only for future proofing and because of price, PCI-E cards tend to be cheaper.

$1200 bucks wont go far.

354717 2005-05-13 08:34:00 Well I'm not the one paying so Its all Ive got :(
It will get a system that will be alot better than what i have now.

I may look at a 3200+ with venice core and over clock it to 3500+ speed.

354718 2005-05-13 08:48:00 Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 Motherboard, $176.28
Athlon64, 3200+ (venice core), $343.84
Seagate 120gig SATA HDD, $138.99
Floppy drive, $21.73
Samsung Dual Layer Dvd Writer, $111.28
2x Geil Value Ram, 512MB, DDR400, $205.60
Radeon X300SE, $130.52

Total, $1128.24

That was priced on Ascent, so some things i could get cheaper locally.

Any comments?

354719 2005-05-13 08:54:00 Floppy drive, $21.73

No biases or whatsoever, but do you really need a FDD?

Cheers :)

354720 2005-05-13 08:55:00 Comments?

Well....Your missing software, case, psu, monitor,kb,speakers, mouse, modem. .and how the hell are they able to sell those DVD drives so cheaply?

Nah,looks good, though I would look at a 6200,they have been getting good user reviews. System will be a grunter.
