2005-05-12 05:50:00 | I have a clear internet connection (dial up) with a internal modem. Whenever I connect to the internet, after any time between 0mins and 10mins, it automatically disconnects. I went through all the options and I couldn't find anything to help. I am running XP SP2 with 999AMD Duron processor and 120MB RAM. The firewall is on, does that affect it? | supersaiyanplough (8098) | |

2005-05-12 05:54:00 | Go into control panel Open phone and modem options go to modems click properties goto modem tab check what the maximum port speed is on It should be on around 56700 it will be slower but more stable

Also I would get some extra ram too (not that this is anything to do with your modem problem) but the last post I just read was also low on ram. Its price has dropped again today so not very expensive now. |

2005-05-12 23:19:00 | Go into control panel Open phone and modem options go to modems click properties goto modem tab check what the maximum port speed is on It should be on around 56700 it will be slower but more stable won't make any difference unless the person has an external serial modem. even then it only masks the problem not fix it. 90% of the time its due to poor phone lines and you will need to string the modem so the modem connects slower and more stable. also the auto discconect can do werid things like this.

2005-05-12 23:51:00 | Or bring up the dialup / properties / options . Whats idle time before hanging up on?? If its on so many minutes, change it to never . Then it wont disconnect u, if you're away or not doing anything on the computer, after so many minutes .

2005-05-13 02:05:00 | I tried to get an antivirus AVG off the internet, but it dissconnected before i could. Also i checked ther idle time thingees and they are disabled. the maximum speed is already set to 56700. Phone lines were checked by telecom and said to be okay. I will try an install a new modem and see if that works. | supersaiyanplough (8098) | |
2005-05-13 06:07:00 | Phone lines were checked by telecom and said to be okay dosn't mean anything. the lines can be stuffed and they will say they are ok. what sort of connection speed do you get?
