| 354196 | 2005-05-11 11:49:00 | (Running Windows XP SP2, 3ghz, 1gig) I have encountered a problem, when I download an mp3 from a friend, and I click on the file to run it I get this message. (I use Winamp to play my mp3s) "Windows Security Warning. Windows found that this file is potentially harmful. To help protect your computer windows has blocked access to this file" But when i download pictures or word documents runs fine. I am able to view the file as well, but with the mp3 unable to view the file to unblock it as suggested from help menu. Any help be great! |

| 354197 | 2005-05-11 12:42:00 | I could be wrong but there are probably one of two reasons for this, a while ago conventional wisdom was that virii etc could not be placed in jpg's or mp3's because of the nature of the files and the fact that they are compressed, or something like that, but just recently I think that this has proven to be an untrue assumption. MS may be nannying you. Option 2 is that perhaps because it is an mp3 maybe MS is wary of passing mp3's through its conventional channels because of the possibilty that it could be pirated, not really likely but you never know these days what with the RIAA and all and the way that MS bowed recently to outside political forces pressuring them to conform to some ruling on homosexuality which they (MS) have since rescinded but not before a lot of people were very p.ss.d off with MS and said so. No morals or ethics just making money and trying to be politically correct but bad judgement by MS at first before making the right choice. Are you using Outlook Express to get this file? |

| 354199 | 2005-05-11 13:08:00 | You could try renaming the extension from .mp3 to .old or something and have your friend change it back at the other end, that might work. I don't think they like .zip's or .rar's anymore either. | zqwerty (97) | ||
| 354200 | 2005-05-11 13:32:00 | By the way the issue that MS weren't going to support was equal rights for gays in the employment market, but they were put right in a hurry. MS was pressured by right wing "fundies" to not support the issue but quickly changed their minds after howls of protest from potential and existing customers of their products. Of course the fundies have plenty of money and influence but it's a numbers game and MS realized which side their bread is buttered on or is that from. Hard choice for them though. Don't want to p... off the Bu****es. Sorry for the Off Topic. |
