355219 2005-05-15 00:09:00 Hi, Hoping someone can help. Yesterday was tidying up drive. Came across 2 files which looked the same. Properties were given as zero bytes. When I explored further they were dated jan and April of this year. Was suspicious about this and also supicious of the fact they were in a little used partition on my drive. Tried to delete them but wasn't able to in Windows. Cannot delete file system error 1026. Tested for virus with no alarms raised
Anyway does anyone know what they are/ Both the same filename:-
" µ/_«0_ "

355220 2005-05-15 00:14:00 Try deleting them in safe mode. Speedy Gonzales (78)
355221 2005-05-15 00:15:00 Sounds dodgy to me have you tried scanning for spyware/adware and if you want to delete them you should try Move on boot found here (www.softwarepatch.com) Overdrive_5000 (4950)
355222 2005-05-15 01:25:00 Hi, Have now tried to zap these files both in safe mode -( I got the same error message) and also by using the program "move on boot " - got message that it wasn't a recognisable file name :angry
Have also scanned the files with up-to date virus scan.
I agree that they look dodgy but a Google search also wasn't much help.
Anyway thanks for the suggestions so far.

355223 2005-05-15 01:32:00 Yes I tried Google too and got what looked like a lot of musical scores.

When you say "in a little used partition" what do you mean? If your HD is partitioned and these spooks are in one "little used" can you remove the partition? Can you navigate to the partition and delete. Have you done a Start/Find/Files and folders. Give us an ID. Are they in msconfig/startup? Are they registered only in the one place?

Look pretty wierd to me.

355224 2005-05-15 01:51:00 Hi,
Don't really want to remove partition. It's a bit of a dumping ground for photos, wave files etc but is also base for "swap file". Get " cannot delete" message when I navigate there: not in msconfig /start up.
D partition is the only place they are as far as I can see. Just sitting there - not in any folder.
Any more ideas welcome :) It's got me stumped

355225 2005-05-15 02:00:00 Have you tried renaming them ? Overdrive_5000 (4950)
355226 2005-05-15 02:03:00 Laborious, but what about moving everything from D: you want to keep, say to the Desktop and then removing the partition but no if that's your swap file that doesn't sound like a starter but then I wonder how your windows managed swap file got onto D:? Can you move the offending files into another partition and try deleting from there or create a new folder put them in it then remove the folder. Just wild gussing here. (Hey, it's raining and I've been driven inside.} mark c (247)
