355180 2005-05-14 22:06:00 Monitor vertical size is squashed and can't be increased , still plenty of black part .

On my old monitor which I have been using it fine up to now its vertical size suddenly can not be increased to cover the whole screen . It?s now only cover 2/3 of the screen . There are still plenty of black part left . I try to increase the v . size but the bar is at maximum .

Image is squashed vertically . Identify the "vertical size" adjustment potentiometer and use it to attempt to restore the image to full size . If you are unable to restore the vertical output to full strength, send out for repair . After adjusting vertical size, check vertical linear-ity .

Sounds I may have to look for another one .

Any suggestions on what is causing this or how to rectify it . Much appreciate .

355181 2005-05-14 22:13:00 Change the screen refresh rate to something higher than what it is now .

It might be on 60 hertz .

Change it to 80-85, if the monitor can handle it .

Right mouse/properties/settings/advanced/monitor .

If u have installed the videocard drivers .

355182 2005-05-14 22:28:00 It is at 75hz, changed to max 80hz, no improvement. Tried others, no improvement. Changed resolution originally at 1024 x 768 to 800 x 600, some improvement but still not much. Thanks lightfoot (39)
355183 2005-05-15 02:40:00 Sounds as though the vertical deflection output has gone down, possibly a faulty electrolytic capacitor, or bad connection, if changing refresh rate doesnt help, and assuming the video card is ok.

Unless monitors are within warranty, it is hardly worth repairing these days. Excellent second hand 17" monitors can be obtained from auctions for about $50 +/-.

355184 2005-05-15 04:29:00 I will change the video card to see what's happening. Yeap, I just switch my monitor off then on again and this happened. Thanks. lightfoot (39)
