| 355149 | 2005-05-14 13:23:00 | Ive been playing with Smoothwall and IPcop and the only way I can get it to work through my 4in1 Linksys WAG54G router is to have the router use pppoa as I always have and use the red NIC with static IP to the router. Is this the normal way as I can only find pppoe in both Smoothwall and IPcop. Doing it this way I have to portforwd on both router and firewall and my wireless network is on the red NIC side so will not go through the firewall. Am I missing something here or is this the norm. Either way I believe the wireless network will be on the wrong side of the red NIC since I have a all in one router. Cheers |

Port forwarding is purely to allow access to something like a web or mail server that you have running behind your firewall and it is more sensible to use the orange interface for these types of services. For your setup with a router/wifi/nat device connected directly to the Smoothie (www.smoothwall.org) ( There is some information about setting up a vpn for IPCop here. (http://www.ipcop.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=FAQ&file=index&myfaq=yes&id_cat=11" target="_blank">www.ipcop.org) on the red interface you would then need to configure a vpn to the wireless connection on the router or preferably directly to the wireless client. There is some information about setting up a vpn for IPCop here. (http:) HTH |
