355085 2005-05-14 10:06:00 Looking at the possibilities of having 2 monitors for my PC. Would like to have monitor #1 displayng one program (e.g. Word) and monitor #2 showing another (e.g. Excel).

Do I need a special video display card? Can someone recommend one (lower end)? How much will it cost, approximately? How easy (or difficult) it is to set up? Do I need special software for this?

Cheers

355086 2005-05-14 10:15:00 Well a videocard with either 2 inputs helps, or 2 separate videocards .

All u do is install both cards (if u havent got one with 2 inputs), delete/uninstall all videocard drivers .

Delete the folders . reboot, reinstall the latest version of the videocard drivers, reboot, Windows should detect both videocards .

Then go to properties/settings (on the desktop) in the Nvidia program that installed .

Its easy if theyre Nvidia based . . . Dunno about ATI based cards . I've never had one . There are programs that do the same thing, but u might as well use the Nvidia drivers (If the vidcards are Nvidia-based) . Its free .

355087 2005-05-14 10:29:00 Well ATI cards have all the features in their drivers to allow you to have dual monitors (plus TV out as well). No third party tools required.

Ultramon (www.realtimesoft.com) seems popular if you want more control and its forum is full of good info.

Somthing like the Gecube Radeon 9250 video card can be had to about $90 and it has DVI, VGA and TV-out..... I'm assuming you have Windows 2000 or XP.

355088 2005-05-14 10:38:00 Hmm just tried it on this using a FX 5200 ASUS card . Works OK .

Just got the TV plugged into the COMP OUT on the videocard with Mirc on the TV screen and the computer screen has the forum/browser on it .

Using dualview in properties/settings . . . .

Am I right to say that if you have a TV out video card and is connected to a TV set, then you can have one program displaying on the TV screen and another program on the computer's monitor?

What about the mouse input, using just one single mouse?

Correct . Either can have different programs (dualview) on each screen or the same screen/program (clone - same screen on both) the monitor and the tv .

Just one mouse is needed .

And no I just found out, u can move the mouse on the monitor to the right it ends up on the TV screen . So, you can do whatever on the program you've sent to the TV . (So, its as if you have 1 continuous screen) .

355091 2005-05-14 11:51:00 I've been to a computer retail shop in year 2002 (not too sure of the name) and saw a VGA male port piggybacking another VGA male port to get 2 screen display. Not too sure what sort of graphics card were they using at that time.

Cheers :)
