354948 2005-05-14 06:26:00 I'm getting a new computer. My dad will be bringing me a small desktop from hong kong with 512mb ram.Not sure what GHZ speed but should be a pretty fast 1.

Anyidea. My current computer speed is 200mhz with 64 edo ram running windows 98se.

Whenever I leave my computer on the computer for say 30 minutes and come back and use it.I find my computer would be extremely slow and it seems as though windows has used up all my computer's resource like ram etc.

This also had happened with windows 95 but windows 98se was a bit better.

Does windows XP have this problem?

Would u say 512mb ram be enough to run games like Doom 3 warcraft etc?

I think my dad would probably be getting a 2.6ghz processor .something like that.It will be more than 1ghz of course.

My father said that the normal desktops motherboard uses a different size mother board than a small desktop and other things such as graphics card etc are different and if you buy a normal graphics card for a pc it would not fit on a small desktop. Is this correct?

$200 for 1gb DDR SDRAm from hong kong

Is NZ cheaper? Is the ram from small desktops the same type as the standard large desktops?

My pc will be assembled by a shop overseas.

354949 2005-05-14 06:37:00 512 would be alright but 1gig would be even better. Cant say I have noticed any slowdown with Xp, That maybe something to do with your virtual memory settings. Overdrive_5000 (4950)
354950 2005-05-14 06:39:00 Why not source it here in NZ?,at least you will be covered in the event anything goes wrong.

As for the size of it and a video card, The smallest you can generally get is a mirco-atx,and they can certainly handle a video card, Though you will need a case fan or 2 as they can get cramped.

The only thing smaller is a shuttle, and these to can suport an AGP card in most cases.

As for the memory leakage, its not such an issue with XP,but there is bound to be some poorly written apps out there that can suck the soul out of a machine.

Waste of time worring about the ram and doom3 if your not getting a video card though, No intergrated chipset will cut it.

354951 2005-05-14 06:50:00 My dad will be getting me a 128mb graphis card.Hes a computer lit as well.I've asked him for a 128mb.Not quite sure what he'll get but when the time comes I'll post the specs here.maybe people can give me some tips.

If i were wanting to add more ram and ask a shop to do it for me.Would there be any warranty?Im afraid that If i take it into the shop come back with faulty ram I'll be in a lot of mess

354952 2005-05-14 06:56:00 Yeah the RAM you buy will come with a warranty depending on the shop it maybe only the manufacturers warranty or store warranty. Overdrive_5000 (4950)

1: Have you checked for spyware and also what processes are running in the background?

2: The graphics card is more important for gaming than the RAM - get at least a 6600GT. 512mb minimum is fine for games.

3: Yes motherboards come in ATX or Micro-ATX. But the graphics card has nothing to do with MB size only what type of BUS is in it. AGP was and still is the current graphics BUS but now there is also PCI-Express as well which is the next generation.
