354806 2005-05-13 22:15:00 Hello
Just want to ask if TASK PSUs are any good, because I've been thinking of upgrading my 300W Auriga PSU. Not having any problem with the current PSU though with it I'm being held back from upgrading my graphic card and possibly any thing else. I've also been thinking of buying Enermax PSUs, though dont know where a local shop would be selling it, dont want to buy it off the net because I'm afraid of the bad handling from the post. So I guess I'm looing for a cheap, quiet yet reliable PSU that could at least allow me to run a P4 3+Ghz and possibly R9800Pro video card, of course plus my current specs.

My specs: 2 IDE HDD, 1 SATA HDD, 1 DVD drive, 1 CDRW, P4 2.4HT, 2X 512 DD400, Radeon 9000 video card, 1 but sometimes 2 80mm fans, all these are running off the 300W Auriga PSU.

Thanks

Enermax PSU are well know for their quality products. If you are looking for a local supplier, then check out the sellers listed here (www.pricespy.co.nz), or simply hit google and search for enermax auckland site:nz (or whatever your city is)

354808 2005-05-14 00:20:00 I agree with Jen, when it comes to PSU's you cannot skimp on quality and as such it's going to cost you . The Enermax PSU's are very relaible and are of a high quality as well, you can't go wrong with an Enermax .

With reference to your query regarding TASK PSU's . . . in my opinion they are decent PSU's, I have a 520W 952T Task PSU, it's been going well for the last 18 months now and I haven't had any problems . . . I do wish I had bought a PSU with a 120mm fan though . . . the PSU I have now has 2 80mm fans so it is loud, but not to the point of being unbearable and to be fair it's definitely not louder than what you'd expect from a generic PSU .

If you can get the Enermax then go for it . . . if you're considering the TASK brand then make sure you get a unit which has a single 120mm fan and also make sure it has SATA power connectors, I've never been comfy with those adapter thingys you get nowadays and make sure it's at least rated at 450W .

354809 2005-05-14 00:26:00 Hate to disagree. I've always used no name PSU's and not ever had a problem. Plain dumb luck I suppose. JJJJJ (528)
354810 2005-05-14 00:33:00 don't forget one of the comman problems with PSU's is people use a to small a PSU. i've seen a 250 watt PSU on a 3ghz pc (i think it was a task psu to). it will run but if your pushing it hard life span is greatly reduced. add in a bit of dodgy mains power, which makes them work even harder, its no wonder psu faults are one of the most comman hardware fault. tweak'e (69)
354811 2005-05-14 00:37:00 You are probably right JJJJJ, but I'm sure you'd agree that if you were to invest money on a new GF 6x00 or ATi x8x0 graphics card (as CCF is intending) the chances are highly unlikely that you would buy a no name brand 300W PSU.... just my opinion.

cheers

354812 2005-05-14 05:59:00 I haven't tried a Task PSU, but have been quite impressed with the Antec True Power. I'm currently running an AMD 64 with four SATA HDs, DVD, 6800GT, Audigy and two 80mm fans on a 430W True Power and it hasn't missed a beat.

Also it seems to be a reasonably quiet unit, which is a definite bonus :)

354814 2005-05-14 21:13:00 Sorry for the late reply. Had a look through the link that Jen gave, doesnt look like there are much places in Auckland where they would sell Enermax PSUs. Currently Computerlounge seems to be the only place that I could get it from, due to price and location, currently looking at the 485W Enermax (www.computerlounge.co.nz) . Btw is there a chance that this PSU or later model of PSU wont be compatible with my MB (ASUS P4P800-VM), eg due to the power sockets?

Thanks
