| 354815 | 2005-05-13 20:21:00 | Does anyone know of any ways to optomize a DSL connection . I us DU meter if anyone knows it, it shows you your Download/Upload speed all the time . Right now its saying I'm Downloading at around 0 . 5 kbs, when I actually download something it jumps up to 50's where it should be, but as soon as the download is done it goes back down to 0 . 5ish . With my old connection(I moved) it never did this it was just always around 30's to 50's depending on peak hours or not . Does anyone else us DU meter, what is your reading like, I would like to get it back up there constantly but it just staying slow . |

If there is no traffic, it gives a low reading (like 0.5kbps), and when you are downloading something there is traffic, so it gives an expected reading of around 30-50kbps. Why would you expect it to be giving a high reading when no traffic is going through? Mike. |

| 354817 | 2005-05-13 22:26:00 | I'm playing EQ2, when I played it at my old place It constantly read 30-50ish, wouldn't playing an online game be traffic? | Yaminn (7906) | ||

You may get closer to what you want by deselecting the Display Average Values in the General tab in Options. Don't forget that you are receiving and sending data through the net as packets so there are bound to be zero transmissions between packets |

| 354819 | 2005-05-14 00:04:00 | thanks man, but I think my internet connection is slower because I lag constantly in eq2, I know it is graphically a heavy game, but I think I've proven its not my machine its my connection. I play the game on high quality (graphics) lag, I lower it to balanced (graphics and performance) I lag, lower it to extreme performance, I sitll lag. My Laptop is running a p4 3.4 GHz with Hyper Threading, 2 Gigs of RAM and a 256 ATI 9700 video card, I know my comp can handle the graphics, and no matter what my setting is I lag. At my old place my DU meter always showed the constant speed while I was playing, now it doesn't, and I havn'et changed any settings to DU Meter. I'm just trying to figure out how to reduce my lag at the moment because I'm dealing with more lag than ever since my move, I have the same provider as before also. |
