Please read the information about all VIA chipset driver choices, however, so that you chose the drivers that can best be recommended for your system. VIA Hyperion 4in1 drivers are suitable for ANY VIA chipset - but they are particularly recommended for KT4## series, P4X4## series and newer, for example: K7 chipsets: KT400, KT400A, KT600, KT880, KM400, KN400 K8 chipsets: K8T800, K8T800Pro, K8M800 P4 chipsets: P4X400, P4X400A, PT800, PT880, PM800, PM880" Well,it's now 3 hours later! | 355126 | 2005-05-15 10:27:00 | Try this, -remove the modem you'be installed onto com1 -remove the PCI communication device with the exclamation mark -go into the modems applet in the control panel -select add -tick the box 'dont detect my modem, I will select it from a list' click next -click 'have disk' and point it to the driver disk you have Continue to follow the prompts. It should give you the option to install onto com 3. Hope this helps:) |

| 355127 | 2005-05-15 10:52:00 | Thanks 4bes,I've done all that!! And thanks tweak'e.I've found a cd labelled VIA series,AAN0.3.On it;Via services pack(IDE Mastering Drivers,AGP VxD Drivers,ACPI Patch) I selected Mainboard Setup Utility Table of contents VIA 4in1 driver includes VIA Registry INF Driver,VIA AGP VxD Driver,VIA ATAPI Vendor Support Driver,VIA PCI IRQ Miniport Driver. That's as far as I went.I have a Geforce 2 video card fitted, and have already got that running ok.So won't need the AGP Driver? What about the others? And thanks so much for your help. |

| 355128 | 2005-05-15 10:56:00 | Thanks 4bes, that is what I meant when I said to reinstall the modem. :) Neil: I remembered after I had logged off and shut down the computer last night that I should have asked if you had installed the motherboard drivers. They should be on a CD that came with your computer. If you are not sure which one is the one you want, pop each CD in the CD drive and have a look at their contents. The motherboard drivers for my old computer (a PC Direct machine) are on a "Support" CD which was in a sealed envelope with "Do not use without a PC Direct support person" or words to that effect. It wasn't until I plucked up the courage to open the envelope that I found it. :p Try 4bes suggestion before you go hunting for other drivers as that has always worked for me so far. Edit: Oops... bit too slow! I'm not clear on whether you have fixed the problem by following 4bes suggestion... is it still not working? |

| 355129 | 2005-05-15 12:23:00 | Thanks Foxy1, this is coming to you from the old ME machine, yeh! I downloaded the drivers from VIA-thanks tweak'e-and installed them, then it found new hardware but it flashed past so fast, but it wasn't the PCI Communications one.Found a generic driver for the modem, installed it,deleted the modem and the PCI thing again, rebooted and it found a different modem!!!!!Deleted the choice for the old one and it's burst into life. So thank you all so much,I've learnt a lot.And once I've finished loading all programs I'm going to do an image to my external hd before my sister gets this! Now for AVG.And all the ME updates. Thanks once again,I might get to work tomorrow now. Then I can go back to my boring no trouble XP machine!Yeh! |

| 355130 | 2005-05-16 05:32:00 | Well done, Neil . If you found the CD with the motherboard drivers there might be modem drivers on that as well, or on another CD . If not, then don't worry about it if the modem is working OK now . How about putting Opera (or, if you have to, Firefox :p) on it for her and perhaps Eudora or Thunderbird as well so that she doesn't get into bad habits using Internet Explorer and Outlook Express? Don't forget to bury the shortcuts to IE and OE somewhere out of the way in the Start Menu . :D |

Not going to change the modem drivers now, enough is enough! It's getting online and that's good enough for ME. Thanks once again to everyone for your help. |
