| 355058 | 2005-05-14 08:49:00 | Hi folks, I have Win2K Pro as my operating system,on a Compaq DeskproEN P111, and as soon as I go online, it's only about 10 minutes before my browser, mail and anything comes to a stand still. First thought obviously is trojan/virus/spyware or all 3! I have Norton anti virus, Microsoft anti-spyware and Spybot, all actively coming up clean after their respective "scan on start-up", and after each reboot when things have gone pear shaped.I have Goldtach as my firewall and use Blink broadband through Ihug as my internet connection. Nothing is crashing, I'm getting no "runtime" or "fatal" errors. But the common theme is that about ten minutes or so into surfing my system slows down- I have a look in task manager, and "dbgbgr.exe" has started as a running process. I have tried ending the process, and it disappears from task manager, but then becomes active again in minutes, and then all applications such as the web browser and mail and anything else running just slows down and then freezes. My question is, can I disable the Debugger and/or Dr Watson? And if I can-does it affect other critical system files? Or is there another solution? Appreciate any help- it's driving me up the wall. rickyc |

| 355061 | 2005-05-14 10:28:00 | Thanks for that advice. I have downloaded Hijackthis, and ran it. I unchecked 3 entries to do with debug, after backing up. I also went into msconfig,as suggested and saw the same ones plus a couple "ftp.exe" entries that I didn't recognise and thought may be suspect. After rebooting and connecting to the net, I have been online now for an hour or so and haven't had a problem. I have checked taskmanager a few times to see what is running and dbgbgr.exe has not appeared. Seems to be 100% better so far! So thanks for great advice that seems to have solved my problem :) |

And if you want to not only disable things in startup but remove them you can open Spybot Search & Destroy (if you haven't got it it's highly recomended) and go Mode / Advanced / Tools / System startup and remove the entries. (Only learnt this a couple hours ago) NOTE that they will be utterly gone so watchit. HTH...........m |
