355808 2005-05-17 01:11:00 Reinstall of Britannica 2000 on XP Pro -

Original install - selected all optional components and ran encyclopaedia entirely from hard drive. Worked OK only in administrator accounts. In other user accounts that were set as "limited" (during install) Britannica opened OK and performed search but would lock up when attempt was made to access any of the entries in the search box. changing the limited accounts to admin accounts didn't fix the problem.

After a recent reinstall of XP pro on a new hard drive Britannica 2000 was reinstalled to run from HD as before only this time it does not work in any user account - loads Ok and performs search but locks up when trying to access any item in search box (same as previous problem with "limited" accounts.

reinstalling to run encyclo from cdrom makes no difference, and virtually disabling everthing during install - ditto.

the fact that Britannica ran previously in "administrator" accounts but not "limited" accounts make me suspect that some setting in Windows (or Explorer) is preventing this from running now -

but what?

355809 2005-05-17 01:31:00 There are known problems with Britannica 2000 under XP particulary with XPSP2.

Assume you have updated the software?

Unsure if this will help for your issue though, but worth a try

355810 2005-05-17 03:03:00 I have a later version of Britannica which I had on hard drive prior to reformatting.I won't be reinstalling as all the info I want is much easier to find via google. Cicero (40)
