355694 2005-05-16 09:36:00 I just got the telecom free modem and free connection with adsl deal. What a mistake that was. First modem I got all the lights on the front lit up, except for status, cant goto 10.1.1.1 or 10.1.1.2 in usb. When installed with usb it creates a new LAN and says limited connection flow, and creates a new network adaptor in device manager but it still doesnt work. Under LAN it doesnt do anything, it connects and says its connected, but the comp doesnt recieve anything, it just sends. So I call telecom and tell them the problem. they say its the modem, they send me another one, same problem?
Help, dont know what im doing wrong!

355695 2005-05-16 10:08:00 I've not had any experience in connecting dsl modems/routers by USB, but it can be more problematical than connecting by ethernet. Do you have the latter option?

Have you tried the browsing to modems setup by entering it's IP address into aweb browser, or is this one of those beasties that installs by software (thinking USB setup here)?

Another thing, are you using XP with it's marvelous one way (one trick) firewall by any chance?

355696 2005-05-16 10:36:00 D-Link suck, that's what's wrong. ;) vapo (5203)
355697 2005-05-18 04:22:00 I was connecting via ethernet, but I tried both options and neither worked. However my computer got a deadly virus the other day, and destroyed everything so it is currently getting fixed under its warranty by a technician, who I also gave the stupid modem, because if he can't get it working then it has to be a problem with the modem. And yes D-Link does suck, but it was a free modem with the telecom connection deal.. It has been about 2 weeks since my connection was activated but I kindly informed their Customer Service and Support Manager that if the modems they send me are not able to be working before the first billing period, I shall not be paying and I will be disconnecting myself from their network and looking elsewhere. 355698 2005-05-18 10:41:00 Good for you, stand up for yourself. Too many people are unwilling to complain. Make sure it is the modem and check the TOC, especially regards billing before you give them the heave ho, k. Murray P (44)

A warranty that covers incompetence by a user that lets a virus ruin the system?
This I gotta see
I'd be prepared for a repair bill If was you, as Warranties don't cover viruses

355700 2005-05-18 11:10:00 I feel an urgent correction must be made - D-Link products that cost less than $300 suck.

Case in point: DSL-500, DI-707P (the worst thing ever).

Above $300, the DGS-1008D is fantastic. The 3226S managed 24 port 10/100 switches are also fantastic.
