355588 2005-05-16 07:56:00 "this program cannot be run in dos mode" because this OS, XP, cannot be run from DOS. mark c (247)
355589 2005-05-16 07:57:00 Have you tried booting off the cd to install XP??

Go into the BIOS chuck the CD in, and change the bootdisk to CD. Save the settings, reboot. If the cd is bootable, it should install XP off it.

If u see press a key to continue or similar on the post screen, press a key so XP can install.

355591 2005-05-16 08:36:00 Go into the BIOS chuck the CD in, and change the bootdisk to CD. Save the settings, reboot. If the cd is bootable, it should install XP off it.

Have you tried what speedy said except (from reading about it, not experience) going into BIOS, change the boot drive to your CD, save the settings, then put the install cd into the drive, and then rebooting.

PS I think if you already have 98 on the comp then you are going to have to partition your HD and have one OS on each partition, and a "which partition to boot from" overrider.

Don't have any exp of this. Not very helpful I know. :(

355592 2005-05-16 09:09:00 Go to the main directory of the CDROM
type cd i386
then type winnt
It will start a dos mode installer
