355388 2005-05-17 10:30:00 you havn't removed anything or its simpy reinstalled itself.

try the directions in the spyware FAQ at the top of the page.

clean all nasties out before installing SP2.

355390 2005-05-17 10:37:00 you need to go into safe mode. i think its all explained in the FAQ (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz). tweak'e (69)
355391 2005-05-17 10:39:00 yes about that.... i should have said that we need to fix this problem first before we install sp2... sorry

try scanning it in safe mode. is spybot and adaware up to date?

355392 2005-05-17 10:41:00 Safe mode is best, as none of the crapware is run at startup, so it can be removed effectively Edward (31)
355393 2005-05-17 10:45:00 I don’t mean to shatter your confidence in fixing this problem, but maybe it’s better if you bring your pc in a pc shop and get them to fix it.

Just a suggestion :)

355394 2005-05-17 10:46:00 yes they are both up to date,

i will now try to scan it through safe mode, will post back shortly

355395 2005-05-18 07:16:00 ok guys heres my update

that startsearch.net page that wasnt removing has been removed.
i restarted in safe mode, and removed all links that were identified through the online hijacker analyser, and tips through this site, and so far so good, everything has worked out, and hijacked homepage removed. it was good too, cos while webpages were hijacked, i wasnt able to read email, and some other webpages.

so i am happy.
thanks for everyone who helped me out with this with suggestions and tips. thumbs up
great effort from all.

:) Leah

355396 2005-05-18 07:28:00 Great you have got that sorted Leah. :)

You might want to post one final hijackthis log here just to make sure everything is looking OK. The online analysers aren't 100% perfect with detecting items so it would be good to have a manual check as well done. :)

For future maintenance, make sure you regularly use Ad-aware and Spybot Search & Destory to scan your system. It is very important that you keep the program updated with the Update function in each program.
