355744 2005-05-16 21:11:00 Go into the BIOS (by pressing either F1, delete key, F10, or other key) as soon as the system boots up.

Hopefully, it has an option in there, to disable the onboard video.

355745 2005-05-16 21:14:00 It will only have the option to disable onboard VGA if the motherboard has an AGP slot. If not, you can't do it. pctek (84)
355746 2005-05-16 21:27:00 If it's a newish board you probably don't have to disable anything in the BIOS
Plug the new card in attach the monitor to the new card & boot
The BIOS will automatically disable the onboard video & recognise the new one
Still check the BIOS for the option though

355747 2005-05-16 22:30:00 I doubt very much you'll need to do anything in the BIOS.

If it's not auto disabled, go: right-click on My Computer / Properties / Hardware / Device Manager / maximise Display Adapters / right-click the on-board card / Properties / under the General tab/Device usage, select Do Not Use This Device (disable).
