1386032 2014-10-10 21:40:00 Netcomm NB604N

last night around 8pm no internet access - checked a couple of things then noticed one of the router lights (internet one, above the wireless icon) was static - tried to access it, (192.168.1.1) nothing - phone call to Telecom, after a few suggestions the operator suggested a router reset- end of conversation. Turned both off. This morning restarted and the router is back in business - In September, an email from Netcomm, "Firmware Update" for NB604N - to quote,

"Updating your Firmware is only recommended if you are having problems with your product or have been asked to do so by a NetComm Representative."

There didn't appear to be any problems so I filed it away for the future "now" - so - shall I do the update? I'm a bit wary of that "cause there're a few entries I'm not too sure about. Of course the alternative is to throw it away and get a new one. Anyone got some advice on this please?

1386033 2014-10-10 23:25:00 Depends what the update fixes. And if it fixes any probs you've had or you've seen Speedy Gonzales (78)
1386034 2014-10-11 01:07:00 I'd do the update anyway, for fun ;) Agent_24 (57)

1386036 2014-10-11 02:59:00 must've worked, back online, just needed a confidence boost, me! not the computer. Thanks for your replies, Speedy and Agent24 jayal (1291)
1386037 2014-10-11 03:49:00 If it only happened the one time I'd just have turned it off and back on and not worried about it. If it's a regular problem that's different. Electronic devices occasionally lose the plot and need to be turned off, doesn't necessarily indicate a problem.
There is a reason "turn it off and count to 20 and turn it back on again" or similar is one of the most common tech support responses - it fixes a great deal of issues.

1386039 2014-10-12 22:22:00 Turning the modem off for 20 seconds is often not long enough when I have the odd issue - a good five or ten minutes is better if nothing seems to have changed. It is what my ISP recommends as well. FoxyMX (5)
1386040 2014-10-13 02:06:00 That'd only be the case if it's overheating and needs time to physically cool off FoxyMX. If that's the case, it's either in direct sunlight, or it's faulty and needs replacing. Chilling_Silence (9)
