1371729 2014-04-01 17:25:00 My youngest daughter has gone to the dark side and bought a Macbook Pro 13" Retina piece of twaddle. I tried to convince her to get a Windows machine but these young tweenies just have to know better *sigh*

Anyway - she's slowly coming right and downloaded and installed VLC as her preferred video player, but she needs some advice on other free Office-like apps to install.

Out friendly neighbourhood Webdevguy has been giving me some help recently, but I thought I'd ask publicly (shamefully) about programmes to help a young and innocent Mac user who is new to the computing world.

If it makes any difference, she's the spitting image of Uma Thurman - only taller and prettier.

And... oh so sorry to bring up the forbidden o/s subject!

1371731 2014-04-01 19:53:00 Yeah Pages is now free (Part of iWork) with every new Mac. It's actually really bloody good!

I mostly use Open Office on my iMac just for basic text documents. Its free and I've used it for years. The other option would be iWork which can be downloaded from the Apps store via the Apps icon in the Dock - or just look in the apps folder for the various iWork icons

I have VLC as well just incase I want to watch the occasional .wmv file, otherwise Quicktime is fine.

1371734 2014-04-01 20:22:00 Pages works well, but make sure when she saves work she saves it as a .pdf or a .doc file, it will default to a .pages file. Alex B (15479)
1371735 2014-04-01 21:37:00 Thanks for the inputs.

Chill... she's in Melbourne and hardly knows how to use her computer, let alone how to photo and send a picture! I mean really... she's blonde! (albeit dyed at the time this picture was taken) LOL

But if you were asking for images of her vs Uma Thurman... see attached: :-)

Yup, pretty close.

How to take a photo and send a pic is pretty straight forward.. as long as you know how to explain it in basic terms ;)

As long as the PhotoBooth icon is sitting in your Doc, just click on it to open. "Hint" its the icon that looks like a PhotoBooth...

Just click on the icon to open it.
then smile and click on the RED button at the bottom of the screen.
Wait for the 3-2-1 count down.
Select your pic then click on the email button directly above your pic and choose your prefered email, facebook, twitter ... add address and hit send.

Aww you're kind mate. Thankyou. But of course 3 daughters are more than enough.... just wait till you have some of your own!

As for the MacBook pic... have to wait until I see her and it in a couple months.
