1384886 2014-11-12 06:34:00 Whatever place you choose be careful with all the comforts for it. Also taking and android tablet along you can be a good decision and there should really be a good outcome for it which is so worth it. Caleb98 (17298)
1384887 2014-11-12 08:04:00 So What I have evaluated, and set up so far is: ENTRAIN for jetlag, NAVIGATOR for GPS (download free maps for offline use) works well, Google TRANSLATE, Unlimited VPN by VIT.
Putting off the Nexus 5 till closer to departure date(hanging out for a cheaper price). I figure to cover my butt with with off line and on line apps where appropriate. Phone is a biggy for us $29 dollar Nokia on prepay is our max to date ( did anyone mention kicking and screaming ?). Pretty much au fait with the security situation re pickpockets, cons, helpers(?) etc. Let alone internet security. Aiming to have a great time with out the negatives of the innocent. Second time around for me, showing my wife some of the places I got to in may younger days.(would you believe 1970's !!))

1384888 2014-11-12 20:47:00 Another option is a 2nd hand older model when a new version is released. I picked up a Note 3 for $500 on trademe and with it's large screen (5.7") and excellent (for a phone) camera it's a great phone and would probably be all I personally would need for travel. I also sold my S3 for $250 so in my case this was a $250 upgrade to last years flagship phone. A phablet like this is a pretty decent compromise but some people find them too large for daily use (not me I love it).

I like the nexus range and would not argue with the choice of a Nexus 5, great phone, but consider any of the popular models as alternatives if you can find a good deal. Samsung, HTC, Sony, etc - a lot of excellent phones around. Whenever a new model comes out a lot of cheap 2nd hand phones show up for sale from all those people who upgrade regularly.

Of course you could just take the Nexus 7 you already mentioned :)

1384889 2014-11-12 22:38:00 Definitely recommend getting "Word Lense". It'll work offline even and is a must-have, especially going to Italy / France, it was fantastic for us for some of the places in France that didn't have English menus:
