2014-04-02 02:40:00 | Christchurch. Although what that has to do with mechanics I don't know. The first one was samoan, the second one was samoan + Yugoslavian. No idea where they were born. I think his comment has more to do with your response that they were liars. From my observations you sounded shocked..?

2014-04-02 02:52:00 | Unfortunately this happens in every trade. Friend of mine has just had a motherboard die after 18 months. He was told by PBTech in Henderson he's have to replace that AND his CPU... They tried to sell him an i5 motherboard, tried telling him nobody made motherboards to replace his current one and both would need replacing. Motherboard and CPU was gonna be ~$600 I told him to just get an AM3+ motherboard, no need to replace the CPU. Motherboard cost ~$90+GST. *******s!

2014-04-02 03:03:00 | Wasn't there a fella that charged someone hours of labour to fix a computer that was hardly worth anything ... With cars and as someone who don't know much of the technicals other than a oil change and a filter change. We just pick up a used car in Turners for $4-6k use it another 10yrs and flick it off. We're fortunate now to have a nice mechanic but we drive 30km to where he is. WOF is coming up with one and he ok'ed it that we buy a fuel filter for him to replace also. In the past we got shafted with manufacturer dealers and mechanics. Without the expertise of Pctek's husband the labour charges of even the good mechanics outweighs the car's value.

2014-04-02 03:11:00 | I think his comment has more to do with your response that they were liars. From my observations you sounded shocked..? Shocked? Nah.....they are all guilty until proven innocent. Even the current one, OK, no problems there....but as I said, we stood around telling him mechanic stories. It's when you wander off and leave them to it, you have to watch. It's more of a "again?" than a "shock". Yep, all trades people, that's why I titled it like that and not mechanics. Maybe I should just title it humans. Then again, some dogs too....title it beings of planet earth then.

2014-04-02 03:14:00 | I would agree with Nomad. If you are not a mechanically minded person, and many people including myself are not, then it is often much better value just to find a suitable mechanics garage (there are many all over Auckland) and get your car serviced or repaired by them. I get my car serviced or repaired at Barry Clarke's in Grey Lynn. ( I used to work next door to them so it was convienient for me) It may cost a bit more than getting a friend to do it for a case of beer but at least I know that they are reputable and I just get my fiancee to give me a lift after I have dropped my car in. About the only time you will get charged "mega $$$" is if you have bought a European car and get it serviced by the dealership, but their theory is that if you can afford the car you can afford the servicing.

2014-04-02 03:17:00 | I go to the Toyota dealer to service my Toyota, a little pricier than the local mechanic but I've had no issues with them and they have no problems getting parts :) If you were going to complain about them it'd be only about price or possibly competence, they are at least honest about what needs fixing in my experience. That said I've only had one repair done and that was after the testing station detected a problem with my front brake balance and that was specific enough that they couldn't BS anything. The rest of the time it's just warrants and servicing, and only because I've given up climbing under cars trying to figure out how to reach the oil filter these days (and burning my arm on the exhaust :))

2014-04-02 03:46:00 | Friend of mine has just had a motherboard die after 18 months. Unless it was a business computer, the CGA should have taken care of that Chill. Eighteen months is not an acceptable EOL point for any electronic device, other than those operating in hazardous or severely contaminated environments. PBTech are stretching the envelope a bit! I get the feeling that suppliers of computer components have a mistaken belief that the CGA does not apply to their business activities. The first computer that I had custom built for me came from LCS who had a good reputation back in the day. It had a number of inexplicable failures, so they built me a new one at no cost and didn't need their arm twisted to do it either. Cheers Billy 8-{)

2014-04-02 06:09:00 | I thought your mum was Hungarian? She is . The mechanics (bad one and good one) - were as described . Anyway, was reminded of Wainuitechs mention of the sellotaped PSU . Which reminded me of my customer experience . Lady had a dead PC . . . . went round, PC in bedroom on dresser completely surrounded by piles of crap, mostly clothes and stuff . Not allowed to move crap, she wouldn't either, said I could examine it as is . Couldn't see anything except front so I asked, was it plugged in? Yep . Was it switched off at wall? Yep . So she walks out, I jam my hand through piles round to back of it to pull it forward some, and next second I'm lying on my back on other side of room . She walks back in and asks if I am taking a lie down? Well, hey, us techs always take a nap when arriving at customers places, of course . I ask her if anyone else had looked at PC and she says, oh yeah 3 other techs . I say Oh, and they haven't fixed it? What did she do, bury them out back? Because the issue was, the switch at back of PSU was no longer there at all and I had stuck my finger in it when reaching round . Which is why I landed on the other side of the room . I took the PSU out, put it in her outside rubbish bag and left . She never rang me again, or paid and I never went there again . So my bad tech job I guess, lying down on the job, making smartass comments and throwing her PSU out .
