1371621 2014-03-30 18:59:00 Haven't used any for a while. The netbook doesn't have a dvd so had to use a flash drive to install windows on it. And if I want to copy anything across now, I'll do it wirelessly. Don't bother about backing anything up. If something dies / fails so be it :p Speedy Gonzales (78)
1371622 2014-03-30 19:52:00 Hardly ever. If you need the ability to have access to a whole bunch of stuff that's bootable, have a look at the Zalman ZM-VE300 Alex B (15479)
1371623 2014-03-30 20:03:00 Yep. I still use them for archiving TV programs on but haven't burned any audio disks for years now.. paulw (1826)
1371624 2014-03-30 21:36:00 I find that most people at least have a DVD player (even if they do not have a computer) so that they can play lengthy home made movies on DVDs. These movies can be watched and stored away for later viewing.

The biggest problem is future proofing. In twenty or thirty years time what technology will be around so that these movies can be replayed at a family reunion for example.

I am not a fan of Facebook but I have posted a few short clips on Utube.

a non issue I think (despite no one really wanting to watch such stuff ) :p

20+ year old tech :
VHS: players still around & still being used
vinyl records & players: still around, still being sold , still being made
audio tape, reel to reel & cassette players are still around & still being used

some of the not so popular formats will be more of an issue in 20 years .

1371626 2014-03-30 22:38:00 Work stuff, yep, lots of bootable tools, etc.
Personal stuff, not so much. Store mostly on synch'd 2 external hard drives and Crashplan.

1371627 2014-03-30 23:35:00 I use them (and floppies) as much as I ever did for diagnostic tools, BIOS updates, etc. Agent_24 (57)
1371628 2014-03-31 01:19:00 Yep :)

I still have about 200 VHS tapes of Formula One races that I need to edit, convert and copy onto DVD.

I bought a 100 pack of printable Taiyo Yuden discs only last week :)

I like motor racing, always have and always will, but I really don't see the point in saving old races on DVDs etc. Apart from the beginning and end, they are mostly a procession, and once you know who won, nothing is going to change the result on the track. I recently picked up some DVDs of Lotus (single seaters) plus Jaguar and Aston Martin sports cars and was very disappointed, it was like watching paint dry. Engineering was lacking too, it was surprising how many big names shed vital parts and left the track sideways or backwards in a cloud of heifer dust.

However, I will say that those drivers had giant Kahunas and carried them around in a chain-mail pouch!

Cheers

I still have my stamps from when I was a kid. Cant bring myself to chuck em all away .
I'll just wait for them to rot away under the house

I have been chucking out vast numbers of Audio Cd's that I bought over they years.
Pretty much worthless now .
