1371560 2014-03-31 19:14:00 I'm going to ignore johcar's 'troll-baiting' and post this link as a rebuttal of his obvious belief in the infallibility of the "sausage-machine" and the 'infallible' intellects it produces and 'truths' it holds to."you have to make sure if the majority is saying something that they’re not talking nonsense" note he is talking about climate change, I strongly disagree with his views on this subject but not why he is doing it.Freeman Dyson is one of my heroes from younger days, I like his book - "Disturbing the Universe"www.simonsfoundation.org :DI most certainly have no "belief in the infallibility of the "sausage-machine" and the 'infallible' intellects it produces and 'truths' it holds to." My point was that the generic statement you made in post # 4, that "The corporates need to be emasculated." is a patently false statement.Corporates are not people (therefore cannot have their penis and/or testicles removed), and even of we give you the benefit the doubt and not take you literally, corporates do not have a life their own. They are run by fallible people (like everyone else) with all kinds of morals & motives. So you cannot expect them to be perfect. Unthinking dislike/hatred of all corporates is illogical. Objectifying them is silly. "The Man" is not out to get you. Sh!t happens! johcar (6283)
1371561 2014-03-31 20:10:00 "The Man" is not out to get you.

That all depends on if it will bring them a bigger profit or not.

Sad, silly and naive.

1371563 2014-03-31 22:22:00 "Emasculate" has more than one meaning although the sense is similar, corporates are considered to be entities and as such take on a life of their own often at our (the peoples) expense.

Note the usage in example 2, very similar to my one. I have only looked up the usage of this word in response to johcar as I already had the correct meanings just wanted to be sure.

I deliberately used the word in that way as I like the idea of bringing them down to size in that way as they are often run by alpha males who tend to be sensitive about such things, lol:

1371564 2014-03-31 22:32:00 Furthermore I once read a book called "The Social Psychology Of Organizations" which seemed to be saying that entities composed, of course, of people always have a 'dark background agenda' as well as the reason they are originally set up to carry out tasks for all our benefit.

The only way to avoid this is closely controlled observation and regulation, exactly the opposite of what we have now.

Examples of this unwanted behaviour are the Management power structure growing out of control as the top level tries to insulate itself from everyday realities, by stacking in lower layers of minions underneath as a cushion. ie lots of middle-management out of proportion to the number of actual workers.

Ivory tower isolation.

Influencing outside events and situations to suit the corporation rather than being sensitive to the needs of others in the community and many more, think about it how everything starts off well but seems to go off target.

The explanation is supposedly due to the inherent failings of humans the worst one being always looking out for number one and not being selfless.

Think what this means when a powerful group is doing this with no real oversight or restrictions.!!!!

Remember most of the bad stuff is not conscious behaviour just a group with common interest acting to feather their nests at our expense.

1371567 2014-04-01 03:44:00 Oh why cant we just get back to the good old days
Before corporate greed: when there was no wars, no slavery, no stealing, no starvation :wub :wub

as history has taught us that humans are naturally a nice, peace lovin , compassionate animal that would never do harm to another human or animal or tree
Then corporates came along & ruined it for everyone.
Yes, blame the corporates for corrupting human nature.

We live in a capitalist world where companies strive to do business, serve customers, generate revenue, make a profit and keep share holders happy.

Wars on the other hand are usually caused by a difference of opinion regarding politics or religion or a combination of both. You would have to go back a very long way in history to find an absence of war or greed. The Greeks had it, the Romans had it, the Egyptians probably had it, the Turks had it, most of Russia's history is about war and religion, the Chinese had it...

In modern times, good corporate governance and a good business plan often means a well run company, or at least that is usually the plan

1371569 2014-04-01 06:49:00 The corporations are definitely not benign entities, hence why I said what I did at the beginning of this thread, let me count the ways:

Trying to be a monopoly rather than have competition

Fracking

Felling New World forests in South America, clear-felling to enable farming and more profit

Polluting, deep sea oil drilling with no regard for consequences

Oil tankers causing untold damage over the years

Exploiting fragile eco-systems to increase profits

Major contributors to global climate change

Manipulation of the economy for their own benefit to the detriment of the common man/woman

Many more problem activities without hindrance

as I said:

Emasculate the corporations.
