Their problem is the huge cost of specialised plumbing and xray machines plus lots of medical stainless steel at NASA rates, just to set up or buy into a practise. Then there is the fearsome rent. They have to recover $300/hour to make ends meet only to find patients cannot afford that. In Invercargill we'd almost run out of dentists and were facing 2 1/2 hour trips to Dunedin. Suddenly that all turned around and we can now have our gums and bank account polished by a choice of keen young dentists. Not cheap but better than driving 200k. |

Compared to a lot of other places his prices are reasonable, possibly because I am regarded as a regular patient, if you can call mostly once a year regular. A friend, who is a travel agent, told me that she frequently makes reservations for people to fly to Thailand for what would otherwise be tremendously expensive dental treatment here. All-up costs are far below what they would pay in New Zealand. Type of treatment needed and arrangements are all done before they leave our shores. |
