The only one that is sign posted is the Hobbiton shire which is on a farm just out of Matamata . |

| 1371491 | 2014-03-28 20:10:00 | The stream location where Gollum jumped in the water and caught the trout is on the whakapapa river just above the chateau at mt Ruapehu, it's not sign posted. I just saw the documentary of them filming the scene so I know where it is  | Webdevguy (17166) | ||
| 1371492 | 2014-03-29 08:16:00 | I have discovered the track on Mt Victoria we want is called "Hobbit Hide Away" and lies between "Old Mac Track" and "Hataitai to City" Track. Two questions: 1. What is the easiest way to Hobbit Hideaway Track from Miramaar? 2. Are the tracks signposted? Thanks |

It was crazy! I haven't been yet but definitely want to see the Shire in Matamata :) |

From memory it was filmed in late June or July just after a decent snow fall where they had snow all the way down past the Chateau. I haven't been to Hobbiton (www.hobbitontours.com) ( the farm set) although I have a friend that was there recently. It's about 15 minutes from Matamata. |
