1371213 2014-03-24 23:14:00 Just found out something I didn't know.

The NZ tax system for making payments is weird :illogical

Lets say you have made arrangements to pay off some tax, example only: $100 a month due on the 29th of each month.

If you make weekly payments of $25, which = the amount required per month, the tax system doesn't recognize as it being a total payment of $100.:horrified

I was just told that if you have an agreed amount to pay each month you have to pay that amount all in one go, so you would pay $100.
If you make part payments you still get charged extra interest, due to late payments because the system cant figure out the part payments equal a total. Was told to put money into a separate account in your bank and then pay the full agreed amount on or before the due date.

If you want to make it $25 a week, then you have to call them and arrange it. Was told the system is very old and cant figure it out.

1371214 2014-03-25 00:12:00 No doubt it will all get sorted with the next edition of the new geewiz IRD tax computer system from the makers of Novapay or the like.. paulw (1826)
1371215 2014-03-25 00:22:00 Paying on the 29th of the month could be a problem for their computer in February. Novapay could be swiftly fixed if it was used to pay Politician's wages. Bobh (5192)

Yup and the new system is currently up for tender (www.ird.govt.nz) and will probably cost the govt ( Us) somewhere in the region of $1 BILLION or more by the time it is finished.

1371217 2014-03-25 00:28:00 There are so many stupid issues like this which I've begun to notice a lot more since mining LiteCoin. Questioning everything from the value of a dollar to payment processing fees with Credit Cards etc...

Whole monetary system needs a great big shake-up really.

I think the last time the Revenue was overhauled was in about 1987, and that was by Arthur Andersen Consulting. Credit where it's due, there were no major snafus, but some (now) obscure shortcuts or accounting shorthand methods found their way into the programs. But then, it (Arthur Andersen) was locally run by a bunch of Aussies from Melbourne, what could you expect? :p

:2cents:

Andersens moved on from being one of the top highflyers and respected firms in the world, ranking in the top five and regarded as the conscience of the accounting industry, to become a major player in the scandals surrounding Waste Management and Enron. Its subsequent demise and collapse was spectacular to say the least for a firm founded on the highest ethical standards.

Ooohhh . . . . Always best to pay it on time .
Nightmares ensue when your owe IRD . Or even if you don't . But especially if you do .

I found out something else mad today .
Created an online login for husband the other day . Even though I am his authorised agent, they insisted on speaking to him to activate it and telling him his login and password . That I chose . Like he cared . . . . not . He didn't think his username was funny though . (Grampsxx)

Anyway, that wasn't it . . . it was that nowhere does it show his statements of self employed tax paid on there .

I rang in the end and they said that's because 1)I tell them how much he made/owes 2)It's filed by paper

And? So? They always do an assessment, which should agree with my figures and once didn't due to a mistake they made .
And so what if it's paper . . . . . . so were my contracting payments when I had some . They show on mine . It's treated the same - as self employed income .

Madness . . . . .

I hate their deranged PC system, it's worse than Auckland Councils .

Speaking of which, do you know I cannot get a bill from them? Because I pay monthly, in advance, when the bill comes due, mine is already paid so I never get anything .

To get an actual statement I had to harass them until I got passed to a more helpful accounts lady who generated a statement for me, manually, herself, not on their system .
(Just to confirm running balance)

Everyone else can send me a bill showing $xx . xx Credit . Not the council - their PC system can't . . . .

She agrees with your comment Wainui Yep is so backward its not funny.

As the guy said to me, ( using the amounts originally) If you made $25 payments it wont detect them as being paid on time, BUT throw in 1 single payment of $100 in among those payments and it will detect the $100. :groan:

Commenting on Pcteks post -- Sky are the same, if you are in credit you wont even get a statement sent out automatically, but you can get them manually by logging into sky and reading them there. If you want statements then make sure you are not in credit for the month.
