| 1371051 | 2014-03-23 06:57:00 | This cheap TV I brought from the warehouse, has an annoying sound, when watching TV. It comes from the back and it sounds like buzzing. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the capacitors at the back. Well that's all I can see, when I look at the back for the source of this sound The know alls (when I rang their tech support) said it had something to do with the aerial (It kind of sounds like static, or a crackling noise / frying noise). And its like it hasn't been tuned in properly. BUT, I have ruled this out (the aerial being the cause). Because, not only does this sound appear, when watching TV, you can also hear it if you plug something external into an HDMI port. And you can still hear it, if you turn the TV off (for a few secs). I'll probably take it back this week sometime (they say they'll have to repair it, rather than getting a refund or a replacement). Don't know how long it'll take them to do this tho So, whats your verdict? |

| 1371052 | 2014-03-23 07:24:00 | Sounds like a high voltage arc in there. You may be able to see it. You can safely use a bit of non conductive tubing (glass, plastic etc) as a hearing aid to narrow down just where the noise is coming from. | CliveM (6007) | ||
| 1371053 | 2014-03-23 07:57:00 | Capacitors don't typically make that kind of noise... and if they do make any constant noise it won't be for very long and will be accompanied by smoke... What type of TV and how old is it? If it's a CRT I would say it could be dust on the CRT anode connection or similar. If it's an LCD it may be a backlight\inverter fault, plasma.. I don't know. If you can, upload a recording of the noise |

| 1371054 | 2014-03-23 08:18:00 | Its only 6 mths 3 days old. Got it in Sept last year. It's LCD 24'. A Veon. I know it's not the best. But, I'm not that rich. Only got it for the HDMI ports (x3). I've put it back in it's box. So, I can take it back to the warehouse Nah it's not plasma. |

| 1371055 | 2014-03-23 08:31:00 | The most likely source of the noise is a high voltage arcing issue as CliveM suggested, probably to do with the backlights, their wiring or the inverter, if they're CCFL. Although it is rather odd since a fault like that should make the whole thing shut down. The usual capacitor issue that appears in many cheap electronics is unlikely at only 6 months. |

| 1371056 | 2014-03-23 08:52:00 | Well it not only makes that noise. Last night while watching the news, the picture disappeared and something like stripes appeared on the screen. I had to turn it off then on for the pic to come back. Got a reply from the WH on FB to ring their customer service. So, I'll do that tomorrow. And see what they say. For now, I've put the old Sony Vega back in the lounge and connected the DishTV UHF and satellite receiver to it. So, we can at least watch something While this LCD is in it's box |

I'd have either waited for a sale on one of the good brands, or bought second hand. My ancient fridge got a not economical to repair problem the other week. Husband fussed, wanting to pull it apart etc.... I went off and bought more or less the same thing off TM for $50 instead. In fact this one although looks the same, is newer as it's frost free. Last one (bought used) lasted 10 years. Even if this lasts 2 years, still good value. His drill died ages ago...he was going to buy a cheap nasty piece of crap, so I bought him a De Walt off Trademe. He since scored another De Walt recently for $20. Much better than junk.... |
