356559 2005-05-19 02:34:00 Hi All, Great day :)

I installed and run Everest, a program that gives all your system specks, and some advice on what to improve. First it says to install more ram, I have Win ME 512MB RAM, When i boot up windows, this is my start up list

AVG7_AMSVR Registry\Common\Run C:\PROGRA~1\GRISOFT\AVGFRE~1\AVGAMSVR.EXE
AVG7_CC Registry\Common\Run C:\PROGRA~1\GRISOFT\AVGFRE~1\AVGCC.EXE /STARTUP
AVG7_EMC Registry\Common\Run C:\PROGRA~1\GRISOFT\AVGFRE~1\AVGEMC.EXE
DU Meter Registry\Common\Run C:\PROGRAM FILES\DU METER\DUMETER.EXE
nForce9xUpgrade Registry\Common\Run rundll32.exe nvack.dll,nForce9xUpgrade
QuickTime Task Registry\Common\Run C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\QTTASK.EXE -atboottime
ScanRegistry Registry\Common\Run C:\WINDOWS\scanregw.exe /autorun
SmcService Registry\Common\Run C:\PROGRA~1\SYGATE\SPF\SMC.EXE -startgui
SpybotSD TeaTimer Registry\User\Run C:\PROGRAM FILES\SPYBOT - SEARCH & DESTROY\TeaTimer.exe
SystemTray Registry\Common\Run SysTray.Exe

Even with this list which i think is minimal, It says i have used 300MB of my 512MB = 70% Utilization, does this seem right? How much ram do i need?
ps Ive run mem test and no probs

Second: I no people have said in the past to leave it alone, but Everest says my BIOS is more than 2 years old to update it? Apart from a shutdown problem i've had for a long time, and have been unable to fix, my computer goes good. What should i do?

Third: I have intergrated GForce2 GPU, Ive looked everywhere, and i cant find any info on how many MBs this Graphics unit is ?? Does anybody no how i can tell?

Fourth: It says under Direct X video "32bit Z buffer is not supported" what is that and how do i get it? Ive never had a prob running any games i play.

Many thanks :D

356560 2005-05-19 02:38:00 512 should be enough increase the size of your swap file/page file or upgrade to XP :D
Also look in your bios should tell you how much ram you have for graphics

ME is crap :2cents:

356561 2005-05-19 02:42:00 ignore the everest recomendations.

512meg with winME is heaps unless you doing some speciall tasks eg video editing etc.

unless there is a problem don't worry about upgradeing bios. it wouldn't hurt to check if there is any bios upgrades on the motherboard manafactures web sites.

startup list is fine.

356562 2005-05-19 02:45:00 Programs like everest will always have that sort of crap to say, it makes them look "fully featured", I would never do anything because such a program advised it,certainly not a Bios upgrade.

As for ram, You want your ram to be used, there is no reason for having it if it sits their empty.....

Dxdiag should tell you how much ram is dedicated to your video chipset,But everest should have displayed this info as well, as would your display properties.

If your going to upgrade, Upgrade your OS, WinME is crapola....

356563 2005-05-19 03:32:00 Thanks guys for the advice, In my Bios it has 64MEG as graphics aputure size, but you can tick 128 or 256, should i leave it as 64,? Also it has it marked as DISABLED under internal graphics overclocking in the BIOS will i gain proformance if i enable this? G-Boy (6793)
