| 356008 | 2005-05-17 10:57:00 | after putting my new pc together from scratch, finally went to start up fully booted and spurred (after initial run of just mobo and video card installed - which seemed to work fine) - pc now runs for approx 1 min and shuts itself down seems to pass post, and looks for new hard drives etc am wondering if cpu has un-seated a little???? of mobo stand-offs??? (but wouldn't that stop boot up altogether??) slowly un-powering dvd drives, remove sound card etc but cos of the constant time factor i wondered if it was a cpu problem???? HELP!!! |

| 356009 | 2005-05-17 11:03:00 | Could be the CPU . See if the CPU fan is spinning . (And its fan connection is on the CPU FAN 3 pin connection on the mobo) . And if the mobo has a 4 pin ATX connection on it, make sure the 4 pin ATX plug / connection from the power supply is on it . Some systems wont boot if u dont put this on the 4 pin ATX connection on the motherboard . Slide your arm along the case . See if u feel a bit of power . If u do its shorting . What kind of CPU is it?? P4? AMD? Other? |

| 356011 | 2005-05-17 11:14:00 | Slide your arm along the case . See if u feel a bit of power . If u do its shorting . This is utter nonsense Speedy, what do you think is shorting to what? Last time we dealt with this mythical situation I think it was a faulty earth on the mains to the computer, but that will not have any effect whatsoever on the operation of the computer, it just raises the case to a low ac potential that you might just be able to feel if you are suitably grounded . If the earth connections on the wall socket are spread (common on old house or poor quality fittings) the HF filter capacitors at the mains input to the power supply have no ground point, so the case rises to around 100-130 volts AC, depending on the capcitance ratio in the filter . This potential can sometimes be felt, but is too low to cause a dangerous shock . Further, it is confined to the metalwork that was supposed to be earthed and cannot "leak" anywhere inside the case to affect the operation of the electronics, that is, not unless something vital is grounded that shouldn't be, at which point the computer wouldn't go anyway, earth or no earth . | 356013 | 2005-05-17 11:20:00 | can get into bios but shuts down pretty soon after that, no os installed yet (can i update raid controller bios before installing os - presuming i get that far lol) | bjocque (1064) | ||

| 356016 | 2005-05-17 11:25:00 | Umm if u want RAID, you MAY HAVE to get the mobo cd if u have it and extract the RAID drivers to a floppy, if u use XP on this new system . You'll need them while installing XP (If this is what you're using) . And press F6, (if u ever get this far lol) . Before u install the RAID drivers, if u can get into the BIOS, enable RAID . I would check and see if the CPU is in properly . What kind of CPU is installed on the motherboard??? |
