357132 2005-05-22 11:59:00 I read an article somewhere regarding the purposes of Windows Messenger. It says that Windows Messenger is meant for those businessmen and alike. It also mentioned that Windows Messenger is more formal and "mature-like" compare to MSN Messenger because of less funky features such as winks and those stuff. Renmoo (66)
357133 2005-05-22 12:09:00 3 different apps have been discussed in this thread so far.

The Messenger Service is a tool for admins to notify users over a network of important info, this was enabled by default on WindowsXP and W2k, Spammers figured out how to use it over the internet and boom times followed. SP2 now kills this service. The message shows up as a grey box in the middle of the screen, there is no way to reply,no active links etc etc, They usually ask you to enter the supplied url into your browser manually....Selling "Anti-spam" tolls this way was big business...

Windows Messenger is a instant chat clint built into Windows XP, it operates on the same network as msn messenger (meaning you can have the same contacts) When or if you install MSN Messenger then Windows Messenger is suposed to retreat into the background, its just as common for both to just launch on boot though...

MSN Messenger is a downloadable chat client that runs on multiple versions of Windows, Its bloated with advertising and features aimed at the kiddies, Looks and acts like an app made by clowns on acid....
