| 356670 | 2005-05-19 11:55:00 | Hi I have two PCs which I want to use Windows Remote Desktop Connection with. 1: MainPC (XP Pro/SP2) 2: JukeboxPC (XP Home/SP2) What I want to be able to do is to do be able to run the jukebox PC in a 'headless' state (i.e. no monitor attached) and access it via the MainPC with Remote Desktop Connection. But for some reason I can't get it to work!! I have set RDC as an exception in the Windows Firewall settings under Control Panel and adjusted the settings under the Remote tab in Control Panel/Settings. I am running an ad-hoc ethernet/Wi-Fi network via a Netgear router connected to the cable modem and the PCs. I suspect that I have to make some adjustments to the router settings but not sure what?! Can anyone assist? Thanks in advance ... |

| 356671 | 2005-05-19 13:24:00 | Do you get any errors. Can you ping the Jukebox PC. Basically all you should need to do is enable RDC, check the firewall port as you have, add your user name in RDC user options if you are not an administrator. But this will only work if your network is working correctly - is it? You shouldn't need to change anything in your router as this is inside your LAN but just in case RDC uses port 3389 by defualt. | berryb (99) | ||
| 356672 | 2005-05-19 21:55:00 | I dont think Home supports remote desktop. That may be one reason why it isnt working. Altho there is a program for other versions of Windows (Besides XP Pro), on the MS site for remote desktop. So, u can use it as a client, I think it is. |

I didn't see that the Jukebox was XP home . XP Home does not allow RDC to it . You can use XP home to connect to your XP Pro PC but not the other way around . Thats your problem . |

I was beginning to wonder if that was the case as I was able to access my XP Pro system via Remote Desktop from my XP Home system but not the other way round. So essentially I have the wrong XP O/Ss on the systems if I want to connect to my Jukebox PC from my Main PC via Remote Desktop -- what a pain! |

If so a suggestion would be to use itunes on the main pc and point the library to your music folder on the secondry pc, I have done this on both windows and mac, but only over a wired connection. and a link on sharing (www.apple.com) |
