| 357230 | 2005-05-21 08:33:00 | Building this new system for my cousin: P4 LGA775 3.4G, ASUS P5AD2-E Premium with 2 x 512 sumsung DDR2 RAM Just completed the assembly of components and booted then entered BIOS setup. But the moment I go to Boot Priority, it shuts down by itself. Tried a couple of times, same problem. Any suggestions, please Cheers |

| 357231 | 2005-05-21 08:41:00 | 1: Check heatsink is on properly, you took the protective tape/plastic off it first off course. 2: Check heatsink fan is working. 3: Unplug/remove all components except ram, CPU and graphcs and see if it boots ok. Then plug them back in one at a time. Check IDE cables are orientated correctly, jumpers match the cable arrangements. Check all components are seated properly. |

Then plug them back in one at a time . Check IDE cables are orientated correctly, jumpers match the cable arrangements . Check all components are seated properly . Heat sink fan is working . What protective tape/plastic you are referring to? I thought there isn't any protective covering for this CPU . I've built 3 P4s previously and they are all without any protective covering . This is Seagate SATA 200 GB HDD and using a ASUS N6600GT PCI Express card . Also, using Thermaltake VA3000BWA Case with 400 W PSU . There is 1 (single wire with a brown connector) yellow coloured wire from each of the case fans - one from the rear and the other from the front fan . I do not know what are they for (probably is a kind of sensing cable) and is not connected to the Motherboard . Secondly, there isn't any speaker (the tiny speaker attached to the Case) found but the user Manual says there is a speaker cable which supposed to be connected to the Motherboard . Any clues at all? Cheers |

| 357233 | 2005-05-21 09:31:00 | Plugged out everything except the video card but still no joy. I suspect those 2 yellow cables - what are they for? Could be a kind of sensing cable that sends the signal to the MB? |

| 357234 | 2005-05-21 11:26:00 | Replaced another PSU is it now working fine. Am now installing OS. The cause of the shut down was because: 1. Faulty Powere Supply Unit; 2. That the 2 'yellow cable' is sending a signal to the system that the fans are not working and shuts down the system. Does anyone know where to connect the two yellow cables so that I can rule out that the PSU itself is faulty? Your help is much apprecialted. Cheers |

| 357236 | 2005-05-21 23:41:00 | what problem? you fixed havn't you? replaced PSU and its all working fine?? the "That the 2 'yellow cable' is sending a signal to the system that the fans are not working and shuts down the system" only applies to the cpu fan (in most cases) and i suspect your still running the same fan therefore its not the fan but the PSU . tho sometimes you can get a fan which is a little slow in getting up to speed and the bios will shutdown the pc thinking the fan isn't working . |

Cheers The tape on the heatsink not CPU . As for the yellow wires: From TTs website: Q: I found a yellow and black wire coming from power supply, where should I have them connected and what is the function served? It allows system to read fan RPM inside the power supply and should be connected to any CASE_FAN on m/b . Don't worry about it, you don't need it, tuck it away somewhere . Nothing to do with your fault . |

Thanks Tweak'e . I replaced it with a another 350W PSU and the system is running OK . Now, my problem is: since this is a new case with the 400W psu, I should be able to return it for a replacement, right? Of course, I want to confirm that the PSU is faulty and not because I did not install it properly as I am concerned about the 2 wires which are not connected . If it's because of the 2 yellows problem, then I am making a fool of myself by returning the PSU and ask for a replacement . Cheers |
