357219 2005-05-21 08:06:00 I turned on my old computer today for the first time in a while...
I spent a bit of cash upgrading bits and bobs last year (Its a Win98 dunger)
However, under the monitor settings (R click on desktop, Properties, Settings), it only gives me two colour options - 2 colour and 16.
Is there a way to change this to 32 or whatever is normal?
I am pretty sure I upgraded the graphics card, and I know it isn't anything to do with the monitor, although, incidentaly, Windows will not recognise the monitor I am using (a little Compaq V500)
Can someone help me?
I need to fix this, as most of what I do on the computer is graphics/Pixelart based.
Any help is much appreciated. :)

357220 2005-05-21 08:16:00 Find out what the videocard is and download the updated videocard drivers for it. If the previous drivers for the previous videocard are still installed, uninstall them, before u install the newer drivers.

This should give u more colours.

357221 2005-05-21 08:18:00 use everest (www.lavalys.com) to find the info about your pc Prescott (11)
357222 2005-05-21 11:48:00 O.k, I downloaded it.
I don't know how much of this will help, but I'm gonna write down what I think you need to know.
PCI / AGP Video is Intel i752
GPU Video Adapter is Intel 82810 GMCH0 - Graphics Controller [A-2]
Vertex and Pixel Shaders are not supported
Pixel Pipelines = 1
TMU per Pipeline = 1
CPU Type is Intel Celeron-A, 500 MHz (7.5 x 67)
Motherboard Name is Intel Cayman CA810 (4 PCI, 2 DIMM, Audio, Video)

I hope this covers it?
If you need to know any other specifics, just ask...
Also, I used to listen to C.Ds on this, but now it is saying there is no sound card.
I have not removed the sound card, or in fact touched it at all, and I know it was working when I last used it (about Jan 29th this year)
Can anyone tell me what I've done wrong?

357223 2005-05-21 22:04:00 This maybe what you're after. Select 98 and download.

downloadfinder.intel.com

Download the first one as of 23/8/2002.

If u have any videocard drivers installed now, uninstall them before u install this one.

For the soundcard, look in device manager under the soundcard entry. What does it show?? X ? or ? Other?

357224 2005-05-22 09:50:00 Do you mean under PCI devices on EVEREST?
If so, next to the speaker icon it says Creative SB 64V on Intel CA810

I'm downloading the driver now, but how do I uninstall the old one?
Is it under add/remove programs?
Also, with this driver, will I be able to save images as .png? Because I can't at the moment.

I'm sorry to be such a hassle, but you're being so patient with me. Thank you :)

357225 2005-05-22 10:48:00 To save images as .png you need to have a program that can do this, the best one overall IMHO and free can be downloaded at:

www.irfanview.com

don't forget to download the plugins as well. You will find this program very easy to use and very versatile.

357226 2005-05-22 11:35:00 Thanks :)

357227 2005-05-22 20:43:00 Look under display adapters in control panel. I cant remember what the entry is in 98. Havent used it for a while!

It MIGHT be in Add/remove. Look for Intel video drivers or similar... Let us know if anything says Intel video drivers. If its there, uninstall it.

357228 2005-06-06 04:19:00 Sorry this reply is so long after my last.
I updated the driver, so now it gives me 2 colour, 256 colour, 16 colour and 24.
Thanks for your help, you guys, it was great to find someone on the net willing to do something for nothing :)

But one final question, is it possible for me to get more colours?
