| 357929 | 2005-05-24 04:53:00 | HI, every helper in this forum. Had a computer since 2002. Hard Drive is making a funny sound and shut it down by turn off the main power. It was 40GB Ultra ATA/100 maxtor Hard Drive. Question: (1) Is maxtor a good brand (2) can I use Ultra ATA/133 (3) why the jumper set to "Cable select Enable" instead of the "Master" Thank you in advance |

Of course, in my opinion all disks are too cheap. ;) It's your motherboard which determines what maximum speed the interface can run at. You can use a 133 MHz drive, but it might connect at only 100MHz if that's all the interface can handle. If the original drive is set at CS, you will have a "CS" cable. There's a pin not connected in one of the drive connectors so that "cable select" does select one of two drives. (A "standard" IDE cable for MA/SL selection has all the pins connected straight through). Just jumper the new one to CS if it's not already like that. |
