357871 2005-05-24 02:13:00 I read that I could eliminate the following files on my computer....
*.temp
*.tmp
*.chk
*.~*
~*.*
*.*~
*.bak
*._mp
*.old
*.syd
*.gid
mscreate.dir
*.dmp
So I reduced my spare pace from 1.7 gig to 2.1 gig on my C drive but NOW I AM UNABLE TO GET INTO Microsoft Office includug Word Excel etc. :help:

Have you by any chance emptied your recycle bin? If not, you could reinstate the files from there.

357873 2005-05-24 02:41:00 Not sure how deleting those files caused you to lose your Office program shortcuts.

Go to Start > Run and type in WINWORD.EXE. Word should open and if it does, go to Start > Search and type the same in again to find where it is on your hard drive. When found, right click and choose Create Shortcut and drag that shortcut onto your Start Menu.

Do the same for Excel but look for EXCEL.EXE

357874 2005-05-24 04:10:00 Don't suppose you deleted these : ~*.*
*.*~ but with out the ~ did you? Which would delete all.
I'd just reinstall Ofice, it has a repair option when you run it.

357875 2005-05-24 04:32:00 Try reinstalling Microsoft Office. It may be best to first uninstall what it is on there now as it appears to be corrupted / missing files. Strommer (42)

357877 2005-05-24 05:11:00 NO FOXYMX I did not get them from Temp File FAQ but from computer Tips PCWORLD long ago but many thanks to those who made recommendations and thanks for the reference to Susan's TEMP File FAQ....SUSAN like many others have made great contribution to many of us who are not as computer literate as some others...Many Thanks :) olldaddy78 (6546)
357878 2005-05-24 05:29:00 It's always dangerous using wild cards like ~*.* . A space in the wrong place converts a single item into a list and delete will happily delete a list. :( If you are using the DOS delete command, it's a good idea to make the command as a DIR one: dir ~*.*, to make sure it expands the way you want. Then call back and edit the command line to do the delete. Graham L (2)
