358099 2005-05-25 01:51:00 Put MSHOME as the workgroup on both.

See if it makes any diff. Sometimes XP doesnt like anything BUT MSHOME as the workgroup. Then reboot both PC's. Then see if the laptop can get on the net.

Have u turned any firewalls on yet? Can either get on the net??

358102 2005-05-25 02:48:00 The PC running ME wont have a firewall, you will need to download and install one.
Sygate (www.sygate.com) is what I use; it is free too.

358103 2005-05-25 02:48:00 Tried using the XP Network setup wizard? If you have the XP CD, you can use that *Under "Perform additional tasks" at the main menu) on both the XP and ME computers. If you don't have the CD, it'll still work

If no cd, on the XP machine go start -> control panel -> network setup wizard, and run the setup wizard. at the end it'll ask you if you want to create a network setup floppy disk. click yes and insert a floppy, it'll wipe it, and put the wizard on it. once it's done, put it in the ME box, go into it via my computer, and it'll launch the wizard :)

358104 2005-05-25 02:58:00 It wont need a terribly advanced firewall if its a client for ICS.

Good to hear its working

The network wizard in XP is crap!! Its better to set it up manually.

It can actually make things worse. And you'll get nowhere using it.

358106 2005-05-25 03:42:00 127.0.0.1 is the IP address ("localhost.localnet") that any computer will respond to (when addressed by itself). It's mainly for checking that the TCP/IP works. Graham L (2)

really? I've had fewer problems using that than setting it up manually

Ditto

Though I have realised since trying to network Linux to Windows how easy (and lazy) using the setup wizard is
