2005-05-24 20:23:00 | Now any large dealer will be buying wholesale from US, not retail, so it would be less than Amazon retail, hell I could buy items one at a time from Amazon and sell them here for the same as Paradigm, better still the DSE price and make a bomb out of it. It is rip off somewhere. Yes, it does seem to be a ripoff, as Terry states "somewhere". I would think that this somewhere must be MS - they would set the recommended retail price, would they not? And perhaps instead of a recommended price it would be a set price that retailers must abide by...?? Hmmmmnnnn, would this be a niche for a parallel importer?

2005-05-24 20:38:00 | I can't comment on large retailers or even the retail copies of Windows, but I get mine (OEM) from one of my suppliers. They have a set price and I had a small markup (and it is small). For instance XP Home OEM = $143 inc GST to customer. The retail versions are more expensive but I don't get a lot of requests for it. DSE makes a lot on some stuff, they get a better buy price because they buy in bulk and often are getting stuff direct rather than through local suppliers like me. Their USB printer cables for instance I sell for $4. They sell for $14.77

2005-05-24 21:54:00 | I think we're comparing retail packaged, not OEM. Yes I can buy XP Home OEM for 129+gst XP Pro OEM for 200+gst XP Pro Full Retail for 530+gst Why anyone would want to buy the full retail is beyond me MS Office Pro full retail packaging for 460+gst On this subject does anyone know how much the big brand name manufacturers would pay for an OS Example: PC from warehouse for approx $800, I've broken the components down and compared them with my buy prices from suppliers and can never come anywhere close I know they buy in huge quantities and the gear is low spec but even still.. So does anyone know how much they pay for the OS

2005-05-24 23:00:00 | Why anyone would want to buy the full retail is beyond me because to buy OEM software you are required to buy a pc or certain mount of hardware to qualify to buy OEM. if i remember correctly MS only sells OEM software with that requirement. the techs/shop are ment to pass that requirement along.

2005-05-24 23:12:00 | The item of hardware is underfined apart from it needs to be internal, the main point is that OEM comes without any suport from MS, with the resoncibility handed over to the system builder...Dell, HP, Local shop, Kid on trademe.... That aside, The dangling carrot of a cheap copy of XP always helps me sell a CD-Writer or stick of ram.....

The prices I have quoted are not my wholesale cost, they have my markup included. All of the prices I have quoted are freely available to any member of the public and available from several online retailers. |

2005-05-24 23:47:00 | Yes I can buy XP Home OEM for 129+gst XP Pro OEM for 200+gst XP Pro Full Retail for 530+gst i was referring to your message: 'Yes I can buy.." I know the wholesale price, it does vary & $129+ gst is too cheap to sell to the public, but that's your privilege. don't worry, i'm not picking on you. i just would never reveal my prices, because some don't understand about the logistics of business & would just think u are trying to rip them off. i charge about the same as shops, sometimes a little less to get the sale if it's big enough.
