357781 2005-05-26 12:06:00 Sounds to me like a dying or under wattage PSU (power supply). Tried swapping that with another one?
Have you added any hardware lately that will have increased the strain on your power supply?

357783 2005-05-28 03:41:00 This is probably a heat problem. It could be the PSU or the CPU. The PSU won't be underpowered. It has worked in the past, presumably. But fans die.

Is the PSU fan spinning? If you can't see it from outside, poke a strip of paper in and listen for the blades hitting it.

Is the fan on the CPU working? Touch the heatsink. If it's "too hot to touch" it's too hot.

Yep, it's spinning.

I'll check that out soon.

357786 2005-05-31 21:19:00 Well it won't even start up now, I think I will just throw in the towel and buy a new one. Loopy (3187)
357787 2005-06-01 00:03:00 I am having the same problem with one of our three computers. After installing windows update 2 in two of them with no problems I installed it in the third computer, and after a few days the pointer started freezing, I reinstalled the motherboard drivers and things went well for nearly a week but now I am getting the splash screen freeze for a few minutes then it continues normaly.
Have you tried reinstalling the motherboard drivers (if it will start)?

357788 2005-06-01 07:27:00 After a lot of trying I can't get onto the desktop for more than two minutes even, so reinstalling drivers aint really possible.

As a sidenote, does anyone have any bright ideas on how I could burn the stuff on my computer (which now won't even start up 90% of the time) to CD, to put on my new computer, when I get it?

357789 2005-06-01 08:31:00 what about faulty ram?, i see by your list of specs you have more than one stick of ram. try booting up with one taken out, and see what happens, swapp them around and see what happens and hopefully you will find a dodgie stick of ram.

otherwise you might want to bring it to a pc shop and have them check it out, it could be motherboard failure or even that graphics card..... they will have a spare one to swap it with.

why not slave your old hard drive in your new pc if you get one?
