| 358711 | 2005-05-26 11:12:00 | Hi I have a wee problem with my JetStream connection and (surprisingly enough) the Xtra website is of little help. Let's not start on the Helpdesk. There is normally a good connection and phonecall can be made and received on the landline without a problem. Problem is the modem then stops responding even though it says it's connected and all 4 lights are on. A reboot of the PC is required to get it to go again. PC is running XP without SP1 or 2 and the modem is the standard Telecom supplied DLink. Filters are installed where required. Thanks heaps for any advice |

| 358712 | 2005-05-26 12:26:00 | Filters are installed where required. Explain exactly where your filters are. The guiding principles are: 1) Direct line to ADSL modem. 2) Anything else plugged into a phone socket goes through a filter, no exceptions. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

Quoted from the Xtra site xtra.co.nz ....ensure there are filters connected to each phone or fax device and no filter connected to the modem itself. Try removing everything but the JetStream modem from the line, this can help eliminate a problematic device.....Check xtra.co.nz for more troubleshooting solutions. |

| 358715 | 2005-05-26 21:54:00 | And if you have troubleshooted (?) all that and still have the problem, could be a line problem, you may need to have a splitter. Like being to near radio masts or similar.... | pctek (84) | ||

| 358719 | 2005-05-27 05:05:00 | Check the filters and any other appliances, etc, that use the telephone lines, but, you say a re-boot fixes the problem, I can't see how a monitored alarm or faulty filter (for eg) would effect XP's ability to communicate. Do you have a telephone handset docking station near the computer? How is the dsl modem connected, ethernet or USB? and, is the computer networked? If you double click on the little little computer icons in your System tray, what does it say about the status of the connection when you have the problem, can you ping the modem? Do you have any telephony, FAX or MS Exchange software installed? |

Thanks heaps for any advice Well, zugabe said that the internet connection stops responding only after landline calls are made . . . Won't be a monitored alarm nor sky box problem then . . . Surely, he's not that lucky to have signals go through to those 2 components at the same time he makes a phone call . . . Nah, your filter is probably bogus . . . Try ripping out everything connected to your phone line one by one, except for the ADSL modem . . If it stays on, ahha, your filters the problem! |
