358447 2005-05-25 13:49:00 Ok, So I've got one of the DSL-302G modems from xtra, works OK except when downloading with programs like eMule and BitTorrent (Azureus).

With both these programs, whenever the download is going really well (fast, connected up all good) Norton personal firewall will either come up telling me that "10.1.1.3" (the modem) is trying to attack some random IP address (212.74.184.5) I think the last one was, on port 0. Now this IP Is not associated in any way to my PC as far as I can tell. I also did a whois lookup on it and apparently it doesn't exist.....

Then after norton has told me this random info that must be wrong, norton's auto block feature kicks in, and it blocks 10.1.1.3. Now I'm sure you can all see where THAT gets me.

its either that, OR the modem seems to get overloaded with connections and appears to crash.

I read somewhere that upgrading the modem firmware could help, so after checking that xtra can't complain about me upgrading it, I upgraded from Dlink's site to the latest version. After about half an hour of stuffing about I Finally got the modem connecting again, (Azureus seems to work, not sure if it will crash again) and while everything else seems ok, the status LED keeps flashing on and off which is rather distracting and annoying.

So if either someone can give me a copy of the original Xtra firmware (which I'm sure no-one has, or can get) or If someone could help me get the thing working with the firmware it has now..

358448 2005-05-25 14:02:00 Your problem sounded like Norton and not the d-link, now you have problems with both . :badpc:

You will need to configer norton properly or get rid of the piece of crap, as for the firmware, there is none out for the model that xtra gives out unless you selected the wrong model . Is yours revision A or C? Maybe a call to d-link will help .

358449 2005-05-25 14:09:00 Ok, Me made an error - Apparently the status led is MEANT to blink, according to the offical manual in PDF from Dlink's site.

Though interstingly enough I don't recall it doing that when xtra's firmware was loaded...

I'll see what happens with azureus, maybe the thing will actually work now..

358450 2005-05-25 14:13:00 The status light should blink or stay on, problem is with no activity of the status light.

What is the revision number of your modem, see here for help. (www.dlink.com)

358451 2005-05-25 14:20:00 Yep, I checked that page before I upgraded, and made sure I got the right one. Agent_24 (57)
358452 2005-05-25 15:25:00 GRRR! Everytime the modem is disconnected from it's power, it loses the NAT rules settings. (Of course it doesn't lose any other settings, just to be weird). Agent_24 (57)
358453 2005-05-25 19:49:00 That IP address 10.1.1.3, should be your computer and not the modem. I think that those modems use 10.1.1.1 for ethernet connections and 10.1.1.2 for USB (might have that wrong), but 10.1.1.3 is normally assigned to the computer.

That IP address of 212.74.184.5 is valid, and originates from Switzerland.

Port 0 is a reserved port and shouldn't be used normally. A quick google shows that emule uses this port as part of its virtual servers as the local port.

So you could have a trojan or virus (backdoor) on your machine (10.1.1.3) associated with one of your P2P apps which is trying to get out to that IP. If your antivirus app doesn't find any trojans/viruses, then try scanning with a trojan detector. Or, this is just associated with your P2P app communicating with other machines.

358454 2005-05-25 19:54:00 you are correct about the d-link addy jen it's 10.1.1.1 for ethernet and 10.1.1.2 for usb..... drcspy (146)
358455 2005-05-25 23:41:00 the random IP that I posted, I said was not the real one, What I was trying to say was that it looked just like a random internet address for a computer, as apposed to say 192.168.0.54 or 10.1.1.3 for example.

I should have said in my first post, but the port I believe was both 7080 and 0, with 7080 being the port azureus was using.

I'm pretty sure it's just azureus trying to connect to something, as I scan for virus/spyware etc regularly, but I will try a trojan detector too

Also, here's a screenshot of my modem's configuration - from that picture It's easy to see why I thought it was 10.1.1.3

Also forgot to add that occasionally one of the DC++ hubs notifies me that the IP address supplied by my machine is not my actual IP. I have checked the 'fake' IP the hub gives me against my IP and they don't match. perhaps the random IP from norton has something to do with this?

358456 2005-05-26 01:11:00 Been running azureus for a while, health is green, firewall/NAT test checks out OK, uploading at near max speed but download fluctuates between 30kb/s(around max) and 2 kb/s, with average being about 15kb/s.

I am connected to about 40+ people, and going by past experience and logic, download speed should stay around 30kb/s.

what the heck is going on??? a few people are uploading at probably 2.2kb/s each, which in total makes for the 15kb/s that I get for download.

And also, they connect, start uploading, then after a few seconds their upload speed goes back down to zero and they disconnect, and azureus has to connect to someone else. :@@: :help:
