358331 2005-05-25 09:55:00 Hi Guys,
I have a Gigabyte GA-6VXE+ with a VIA VT82C693A Apollo Pro133
chipset .
P3/550 .
The 10gig HD is getting a little 'challenged'.
I heard that older motherboards may not support larger hard drives.
Tempted by the 80 GB Dick Smith jobbie...
How do I find out if it will work ?
I read the pdf on the MB but no sign of HD size limit guff...

any clues please ? :)
cheers
Pete

358332 2005-05-25 10:07:00 A BIOS update usually fixes that.

If u can find the BIOS update it'll usually tell u what the update addresses.

I just updated one here for a P2 266. The old BIOS wont let u use a hdd over 8gb (the hdd in it is 6gb).

The last BIOS update fixed that prob. And also fixed it so u can use a USB keyboard within DOS/Windows.

This might be the update here

358334 2005-05-25 10:17:00 No worries, I just posted the URL, if u missed it .

When u boot that system see what version it shows (F something)? and the date of the BIOS . . . on post .

Press Pause on the keyboard to stop it so u can see it . . . then press any key to continue loading windows .

358336 2005-05-25 10:41:00 OK the BIOS update is just an exe.
was sort of hoping for a readme too :)

will it actually update if I click it or just unpack it?
I see they recomend using one of the utilities...
getting a bit nervous here :)
