358258 2005-05-25 03:52:00 I have just formatted and rebuilt a HP Pavilion a340a with Microsoft Media Centre Software . the installation went well and afterwards I rebooted the machine and tried to load Microsoft office . but I get an error message to say that Microsoft installer is not available .

The first time that this had happened I thought that I had done something wrong on the installation so I formatted the drive and started again, with the same result .

It means that I cannot load any other software onto the computer . I am the local administrator, and the computer is not on a network it is stand-alone . Does anybody have any ideas? All help appreciated .

358259 2005-05-25 04:04:00 you may have to use regserv32 to ensure that dll's are properly registered.

Also M$ has just released 3.1 of the Installer. Do a search on their site.

358260 2005-05-25 04:43:00 thank you for the quick response. However I went on to the Microsoft web site and found the 3.1 installer and tried to download.

but then it turned to custard, it wants to validate my version of Windows. This is fine by me. But the computer then I am downloading on is not the one that that the installer is to be installed on. That computer at the moment is unable to go on to the Internet to be validated. I cannot install any software that would enable me to set up a wireless connection.

what to do? Any ideas?

358261 2005-05-25 05:01:00 That file doesnt have to be validated after you download it, even if the other pc isnt on the net.

What that validated means, is if you're using a pirated version of say windows XP, it'll check your system to see if the key is valid. if it is, then it will only ask once... And once you download it, you can install that file on any pc you wish...

But it doesn't insist, it only says you can, not that you have to. SO choose no and then continue with the download.
