My mums work pc fainted
first it crashed
then we rebooted
then we found that all the files were not here
when we opened my computer an notice said that the activex thinngy wouldnt run and so we could not see any files
i am pretty sure the files are still there just unaccesiable
how can i get them back
can i hook up another pc to hers via a cable or somthing and use something to recover the files
anything although the cheaper the better
also i tried changing the ie security settings but that dont work either
there is no internet there so it is prob not a virus
These files are vital and neeeed to be recovered!
Somehow
Anyhow

359112 2005-05-28 04:09:00 First don't try to boot Windows on that machine any more. If it thinks that files aren't there, it might use the space. You need to go in with a different OS which will not write to the disk.

Windows has actually booted, but just says that ActiveX doesn't work?
Are the missing files in one particular directory (My Documents?) or all over?

Get a DOS floppy and explore. (If you haven't got an emergency boot floppy you can download FreeDos ... which might have a bootable CD image if there isn't a floppy drive). "C:\Windows\Desktop\My Documents" would be a good place to look. There are file recovery utilities around ... some have been listed here.

359113 2005-05-28 07:50:00 If you have another PC handy I'd take the drive out and put it in the other one and file copy off what she wants to retrieve. ME = Many Errors. :groan: pctek (84)
