| 359721 | 2005-05-30 04:47:00 | Ive been converted to Firefox and have been enjoying using version 1.0. I see we have version 1.0.3 on this months disk: installation instructions appear (obliquely) to warn against trying to load this new version without uninstalling my current version. If I uninstall version 1.0 then what happens to all my emails, addresses etc.? How can I enjoy the new benefits (particularly security benefits) of the new shiny version whilst keeping the important bits from the old version? | Mike S (1766) | ||

It will find any updates to firefox, and any plugins you may have instaqlled, and proceed to install them :) |

You don't have any emails or addresses in Firefox as it is just a browser program, not an email program. As sambaird says the email part of Firefox is the stand-alone email client Thunderbird which is not actually part of Firefox. The only thing you will be wanting to retain after uninstalling Firefox is the bookmarks and you can save those by exporting them to another folder prior to uninstalling Firefox and reimporting after updating Firefox. The export and import utilities are in the menu somewhere (I don't currently have Firefox installed so cannot tell you exactly where). Personally, I would do as Mozilla.org suggests and uninstall Firefox completely from your hard drive before upgrading. |

| 359725 | 2005-05-30 06:42:00 | You're all right of course. I was stupidly confusing one with the other (............only opens mouth to change feet!). Anyway, the wording on the disk was 'odd' and warning bells went off in my noddle. I'll go for the later up-date from the Firefox site. Thanks you all. Mike S |

| 359726 | 2005-05-31 05:23:00 | I initially upgraded v. 1.0 with v. 1.0.4 without uninstalling 1.0, but afterwards was unable to browse at all. So uninstalled then did a clean install of 1.0.4, which works fine. Bookmarks and extensions were retained automatically, which is nice. Good luck |
